A RESOLUTION honoring and commending Paul A. Rader upon his retirement as the president of Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky.

WHEREAS, Paul A. Rader has served as the 15th president of Asbury College since 2000; and

WHEREAS, Asbury College, founded in 1890, is a private Christian liberal arts institution with approximately 1,300 students that represent 47 states and 11 foreign countries; Asbury offers 49 undergraduate majors along with graduate programs in special education, teaching English as a second language, and alternative teacher certification programs in several disciplines; and

WHEREAS, Paul A. Rader has worked diligently to maintain Asbury's commitment to academic excellence, spiritual vitality, and the Wesleyan Holiness tradition that it was founded on; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Paul A. Rader, Asbury has continued to be recognized by US News and World Report for academic excellence and services rendered; and

WHEREAS, also under Paul A. Rader's leadership, students have participated in broadcasting the Olympic Games, and the college has initiated graduate programs in teacher education, produced an award winning admissions campaign, and added an adult degree completion program entitled ACHIEVE; and

WHEREAS, Paul A. Rader guided Asbury to receive a two million dollar grant from the Lilly Endowment for a five year campus-wide program called "Transformations Project: exploring vocation for ministry, service and life," and a major private gift that funds the Asbury Initiative for Student Leadership Internships; and

WHEREAS, Paul A. Rader proudly served as General of The Salvation Army at its headquarters in London, England before he became president of Asbury College;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby celebrate and commend Paul A. Rader for his dedicated and tireless service to Asbury College.

Section 2. The House of Representatives acknowledges that Paul A. Rader has made a considerable contribution to higher education in this great Commonwealth.

Section 3. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Paul A. Rader.
