Location:Campus Card Office, Upton Hall, Gorham Campus, with travel to University of Southern Maine sites, including Portland and LewistonAuburnCollege and other UMS campuses when necessary.

Schedule:Regular schedule 8am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday, flexible schedule during first two weeks of semester starts and some weekend work required.

Emergency on-call response required after hours, including nights, weekends and holidays

Organizational Relationships:

Reports to: Director of Telecommunications and Campus Card Services

Supervises:Student workers and subcontractors

Coordinates with: IT staff, partners of the USM Card, including UMS campuses, all other USM departments, faculty, students, off campus vendors

II. Statement of the Job

The Technical Coordinatoris responsible for all technical operations related to the USM Card program. This includes overseeing the management of multiple systems for producing ID cards that provide financial services, facility use, and access control. Ensuring data integrity, assisting and providing direction to multiple campus sites, coordinating software upgrades and hardware installation and advising USMCard program partners are all essential functions for the Technical Coordinator.

A comprehensive understanding of the operation, installation, and maintenance of multiple hardware devices, connectivity, and software databases is required to provide insight and direction to problem resolution. Working with departments and off-campus establishments to implement new and enhanced services, the Technical Coordinatorprovides technical oversight during the implementation of new programs.

Above all, this person works independently, providing technical expertise and oversight to the USM Card Program.

III.Essential Functions

  1. Oversees all technical aspects of USM Card operations.
  2. Provides technical expertise to UMS campuses, currently University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) and the University of Maine at Machias (UMM), implementing new one-card programs utilizing CBORD. This includes ordering and installation of equipment, training staff on both software and hardware and troubleshooting problems.
  3. Assists with development of new card applications within the USM community and off-campus to improve and expand the USM Card program.
  4. Provides access control expertise (involving both off-line and on-line technologies) for university construction and renovation projects. Makes recommendations on the access control plan for the project as well as ordering and coordinating equipment installation.
  5. Manages access control for the University: developing code schema and creating new codes as new applications and buildings come online.
  6. Provides expertise to resolve equipment failure and problems through comprehensive knowledge of the interoperability of multiple hardware devices, network connectivity, and software databases.
  7. Coordinates hardware installation and maintenance and software upgrades. Acts as a liaison with vendors who provide support to the USM Card system softwares, including Odyssey, CCURE and IDWorks, to ensure timely resolution of problems, availability of current information on software and full utilization of resources
  8. Provides Residential Life, Dining Services and other partners with assistance as needed to resolve technical issues and makes recommendations regarding purchase and implementation of new services.
  9. Coordinates and monitors data downloads for new semesters, Orientation, OLLI and Summer Session.
  10. Develops, updates, and maintains multiple functions and features within transaction database (Odyssey) for card activities and expenditures, ensuring proper operation and fiscal responsibility.
  11. Analyzes and manages multiple USM Card software based computer systems that involve developing reports, conducting queries to ensure data integrity, and implementing quality control measures.

IV.Marginal Functions

  1. Assist evaluating and renewing vendor service contracts
  2. Produce activity reports for departments.
  3. Provides pro-active technical and operational support to other university departments.
  4. Other functions as requested by the Director.
  1. Supervisory Responsibilities

Provides direct supervision of student employees hired to work in the field. Supervises subcontractors as necessary.

VI.Budget Responsibilities

Recommends acquisitions of new equipment, software and hardware upgrades and new applications. Continually monitors the budget and provides the Director with relevant information as requested on costs of operations and plans for improvement and expansion.

Attends certification courses and educational workshops as required and/or delegated to enhance, maintain and improve appropriate skills and capabilities.

X.Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree in a computer-related field withone year experience in a technical setting; or an Associate’s Degree withtwo year’s experience in a technical setting; or the equivalent.
