East Cavan Swim Club is based at the Bailieborough Leisure Centre and is affiliated with Swim Ireland in the Ulster region. As a club our aim is to give young people ability, a sense of achievement along with a love of swimming. We hope to build on the swimming experience the children have when entering the club, focusing on technique, fitness and endurance in all 4 swimming strokes. Although we are predominantly a non-competitive club we do facilitate competitive swimmers. We endeavour to provide a safe and supervised environment in which children can come together to participate and be successful in sport.

The ethos of the club is participation and enjoyment for all.

Movement up through the different groups is dependent on the swimmer’s ability and space available within the specific group. Throughout the year some members take part in various competitions, some are non-competitive and others are competitive (involving a different fee and more intensive training)

SOUTH WEST MINOR LEAGUE: This is a non-competitive league and is run in a friendly atmosphere focusing on the children improving their swimming and generally having fun alongside their team mates. Teams from Sligo, Omagh, Ballyshannon, Enniskillen and East Cavan swim against each other in a series of meets from January through to April. If a swimmer is picked in the team they are expected to support the club by attending each meet, 4 meets plus final. The league is run on a point’s basis with each swim counting as points for the club as well as points for the individual to gain a place in the Finals.

PROVINCIAL TOWNS LEAGUE: Swimmers registered as competitive take part in this league which runs from September to March/ April. It was set up by Swim Ulster involving many clubs in the Ulster region. It is a team event with swimmers competing in 5 different galas, meeting each club in their division. There is no upper age group cap for this League. It culminates with area heats held in March and Finals in April.

Swimmers will also be informed throughout the year of other competitive events that would suit their ability, parents must decide if their child will attend these.

We also do club trips to various venues such as Sligo Surfing, NAC, Tannagh Adventure Centre, etc.
