  • Brought about significant change to the Business Continuity Institute when first appointed as Chairman in 2004. Provided a clear objective to deliver the best service possible to its members leading to the development of a strategic approach to grow themembershipm, profile and reputation of the institute on a global scale. This resulted in an increase in membership since from 1,300 members from 38 countries in 2004 to over of 8,000 members in over 110 countries by the end of 2014.
  • Recognised as an international expert in the field of Business Continuity and Organisational Resilience. This was recognised as far back as 2005 when awarded the prestigious CIR magazine ‘Business Continuity Manager of the Year’ award. In 2015 anhonoray fellowship of the BCI was awarded for service given to the institute.

  • Primary focus is on assisting organisations large, medium and small to establish and/or improve their business continuity, risk and organisational resilience programmes. This is based on more than 20 years experience in a large FTSE 100 company and 12 years service as a Board Director of the Business Continuity Institute.
  • In the past few years as an independent consultant, Steve has worked with a wide range of companies in the finance, retail, logistics, broadcasting, utilities, local authority, software development and technology sectors in Europe and the United States.
  • A key area of focus is not just implementing a risk and BCM programme but its long-term sustainability by embedding it within the organisation's culture, such that it accepted as a 'business as usual' activity.

  • Actively contributed and supported the BCI (Business Continuity Institute), becoming a Fellow of theBCI in 2000, was then elected to the Board of Directors in 2002. Elected by peers in 2003 and 2011 to the position of Vice Chairman and subsequently to the position of Chairman in 2004 and 2012.
  • During four years as Chairman, brought about significant growth and development. Setclear objectives in providing the best service possible to members whilst developing a more strategic approach to improve growth and credibility of the institute, particularly on a global scale. This resulted in an increase in membership from 2004with 1,300 members from 38 countries to more than 8,000 members from approximately 110 countries.

June1996- July2012 Head of Business Continuity - Sainsburys Supermarkets Limited

  • Identified an opportunity to establish a Business Continuity Management capability within Sainsbury’s based on IT disaster recovery experience gained over a three-year period. Following presentation to the board in 1994 funds were allocated for the plan to be trialled within the corporate headquarters initially, and over13 years evolved into a company wide programme which is now considered a normal business function and has been used to great effect on over 60 major incidents.
  • Successfully managed the company rollout of business continuity plans, developing an awareness and education programme for all staff to enable the programme to gain speed and momentum. Initially launched to corporate headquarters covering 3,500 staff members and subsequently enterprise wide encompassing 150,000 staff. Business Continuity Management is now embedded within the Sainsbury’s culture and is an integral part of new starter inductions.
