Iowa Park High School - EXAM EXEMPTIONS

2017-2018

The IPHS Exam Exemption Policy is designed to reward students for good grades, near-perfect attendance, and good behavior throughout the year. The following criteria were developed to encourage behaviors that lead to student success in high school and beyond. There are NO exceptions to the exemptions criteria.

A student may qualify for an exemption by meeting the following:

1.Have no incompletes with online registration (Parent Portal). All fees owed and accounts paid, must be cleared by:

·Fall Semester: Friday, December 8, 2017

2.Have no more than the allotted absences (per period) for the semester in the class.

·Semester average of 90 or higher – 4 absences

·Semester average of 80-89 – 3 absences

3.Have no more than the allotted tardies (per period) for the semester in the class.

·Semester average of 90 or higher – 4 tardies

·Semester average of 80-89 – 3 tardies

4.Have no unexcused absences (notes must be turned in as stated in Student Handbook).

5.Class averages for semester are computed as follows:

·1st Semester (avg. of 1st and 2nd 6 Weeks Grades with 3rd 6 Weeks Progress Report)

·2nd Semester (avg. of 4th and 5th 6 Weeks Grades with 6th 6 Weeks Progress Report)

6.No more than one ISS assignment – the ISS assignment can be no more than 2 days, no suspension, or removal to DAEP. (ISS assignments for catching up on work, not behaviorally related does not count)

All absences, including full day medical, count with the following exceptions:

·College Day visits (TWO PER YEAR) with verification from the college

·Religious Holidays

·Partial-day medical and dental appointments

·Absences of up to two days for funerals of immediate family members

Final Exam Exemptions Guidelines: SENIORS

·First Semester: May exempt four finals (only two may be a core course).

·Second Semester: May exempt all finals

Final Exam Exemptions Guidelines: JUNIORS

·First Semester: May exempt three finals (only two may be a core course).

·Second Semester: May exempt all finals

Note: Juniors may NOT exempt U.S. History final in the Fall Semester

Final Exam Exemptions Guidelines: SOPHOMORES & FRESHMAN

·First Semester: Will take ALL finals

·Second Semester: May exempt three finals (only two may be a core course).

Note:

- Dual Credit courses will be based on the college syllabus and professor for the course not IPHS’ exemption procedures.

- Core Courses include Math, English, Social Studies, Science, and Spanish
