A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Irvin Lee Massie and Margaret Mary Schmitt Massie.

WHEREAS, with deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Irvin Lee Massie and Margaret Mary Schmitt Massie, and we pause in silent reverence for their souls; and

WHEREAS, Irvin Lee Massie, a native of Upton, Hardin County, Kentucky, was born on December 17, 1915, and he traversed these earthly bounds on February 12, 2002, and he was the loving son of the late Irvin Massie and Ollie Cruse Massie; and his devoted wife, Margaret Mary Schmitt Massie, a native of Jeffersontown, Jefferson County, Kentucky, was born on November 26, 1915, and she traversed these earthly bounds on February 19, 2002; she was the loving daughter of the late Sophia Kaelin Schmitt and Raymond Frank Schmitt, and they were also preceded in death by two very special grandchildren, Frank Thompson and Margaret Ann Love, and Irvin Lee Massie's two loving brothers, Herbert Massie and Benny Massie; and

WHEREAS, Irvin Lee Massie and Margaret Mary Schmitt Massie entered into the bonds of holy matrimony on November 16, 1940, and they were longtime residents of Radcliff, Hardin County, Kentucky, and Irvin Lee Massie was of the Baptist faith and Margaret Mary Schmitt Massie was a devout Catholic; and

WHEREAS, Irvin Lee Massie and Margaret Mary Schmitt Massie were the adored parents of four loving sons, James Massie of Louisville, Raymond Massie of Elizabethtown, Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Massie of Yorktown, Virginia, and John Massie of Radcliff; and three loving daughters, Judith Love and Martha Massie, both of Radcliff, and Mary Massie of Amsterdam, Holland; and they were the proud grandparents of nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and also surviving are Irvin Lee Massie's four loving sisters, Clara Bergenson, Pauline Ferris and Barbara Anderson, all of Elizabethtown, and Ruth Nichols of Upton, and a loving brother, Jessie Massie of Upton; and Margaret Mary Schmitt Massie's loving brother, Robert Schmitt, of Louisville; and

WHEREAS, Irvin Lee Massie served his country with pride and distinction in the United States Army during World War II, retiring as chief warrant officer after twenty-one years of service, and he also retired from civil service at Fort Knox after twenty years; and he was a retired plumber and electrician, having been self-employed for twenty years; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Mary Schmitt Massie was a former cafeteria manager at St. Christopher School in Radcliff, and she retired as a bookkeeper with Kentucky Industrial Services after twenty years of service; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Irvin Lee Massie and Margaret Mary Schmitt Massie has left a void that cannot be filled, and they are mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Irvin Lee Massie and Margaret Mary Schmitt Massie, and extends to their family and friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Irvin Lee Massie and Margaret Mary Schmitt Massie.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit copies of this Resolution to Mrs. Judith Love, 511 Southland Drive, Radcliff, Kentucky 40160, and to Ms. Martha Massie, 861 Cherrywood Drive, Radcliff, Kentucky 40160.
