Hi Bob, Steve and Ms. Barkley,

It appears to me that this William E. Cooper might bethe son of George Washington Cooper.I am not sure if this G. W.is Samuel's or Stephen's boy. They both had a George. I know that Samuel's boy was named George Washington. Not sure about Stephen's boy, George.Have seen it both ways. As a matter of fact, I was never able to figure outif Stephen's son George ever got married.

These people are all found in Wayne County, Districts 9 and 10 in the 1850 and 1860 census. I have looked at Cornelius McCannon and Rachel McCannon as people of interest for a while now, wondering who they were. In 1850 Rachel was listed as 89 years old, and Cornelius was 77, andthey were living right next door to Stephen and Elizabeth, with the Ambrose Holt family living right next to them on the other side.

Ten years later in 1860, Cornelius had apparently died and Rachelis living with the Benjamin Martin family. She is listed as 98 years old and is also listed right after Lucinda Martin, who married Wiley Allen Cooper. Wiley Allen was lost during the Civil War, and did not return home. Lucinda later married again, and Grace Carver who is still living in Cypress Inn, Wayne county, Tennessee is descended from Lucinda through her second husband.

There was also a Dorothy Lucinda Martin wholived in Sylamore, Arkansas, which seems to be a major crossing point for many of the Coopers who were moving west. Her father was listed as George Washington Martin. It seems to me the connections are very strong in both Wayne County, TennesseeandStone and Searcy Counties in Arkansas for many of the families that we are finding that we are related to.

It is evident that the Barkleys, McCannons , Martins, Holts, Balentines, Hayes, Piggs, McFalls, Coopers and others were within the Cypress Inn community in the 1850 and 1860 census.

Lots of good insights to be gleaned from getting in there and looking it all over. Steve says Grace Carver is in a wheelchair now. She is our major family historian in the Cypress Inn area where she still lives, and remember she is a descendant of Lucinda Martin, who was first married to Wiley Cooper. She is a wealth of information and knows everybody.

We still don't know the exact relationship between the Coopers and the McCannons, but wouldn't it be interesting if our Elizabeth were a McCannon instead of a Holt or Hayes as we had previously thought.

We are so glad to have a new family member with fresh insights. Please stay in touch.

Barbara

This is a picture of my paternal great grandfather, John T. Barkley, born 10 Feb 1865 in Wayne Co TN, died 03 Nov 1900 in Winona Shannon Co MO. He was the son of William M. Barkley and Hannah Minerva Martin Barkley, also of Wayne Co. They were related to the Coopers of Wayne Co. I was telling Steve, I have some info on them.

William E. Cooper (Loss Cooper) married Dovie Williams 06 Mar 1917. He was born in Wayne Co. They both died and are buried in Winona, at the Pine Lawn Cemetery. He was married first to Mary Unknown; she died in 1906. Loss and Dovie had a daughter, Eva, who married late in life to Howard Dale. Both are deceased. My uncle, Larry Barkley, went to Eva's estate sale and bought a painting of Loss. It is pretty large - can't scan it; it hangs on the wall in Larry's bedroom. There was one at the sale of Dovie, as well, but he didn't get it and can't remember who did buy it.

I was told by Uncle Larry, who knew them, that they were related to the Barkleys, all coming from Wayne Co to Missouri together in the late 1860s or early 1870s. I believe they might be related to you and Steve. Do you have any info on the Wayne County Barkleys or Coopers, also Martins (Benjamin married Hannah McCannon, daughter Hannah Minerva married my gr-gr grandfather William M. Barkley).
