Job Description: Apprentice/Laborer/Truck Driver (Wastewater)

SALARYRANGE:$8.50 - $12.66/hrFSLA: Non Exempt

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Performs any combination of tasks such as following: Cleans equipment such as bar screen and weirs. Lubricates machinery. Drives, loads and unloads trucks; spreads sand, gravel and dirt. Paints (rough) and performs other minor maintenance. Digs and refills ditches. Cleans drains, ditches, bushes; rakes grass, leaves and trash; seeds and cares for lawn and ornamental plantings. Removes snow and ice from walkways, driveways and equipment. Collects and disposes of trash. Washes and cleans vehicles, tools and equipment. Carries or holds material, supplies or tools to assist operating and or maintenance personnel. Works rotating shift.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

1. Reports to: Bio Solids Supervisor and Superintendent.

2. Directs: This is a nonsupervisory position.

3. Other: Has contact with other District employees and the general public.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Essential Duties

Cleans and maintains buildings, tanks, drives, and lift stations at the wastewater treatment plant and remote locations;

Performs general lawn maintenance including, but not limited to, mowing, weed eating, spraying insecticides, and watering plants;

Maintains tools and equipment;

Performs general custodial duties including, but not limited to, sweeping, dusting, emptying trash, and organizing the shop, paint room, parts room, and storage buildings;

Picks up supplies when necessary; and

Assists in construction of new structures and buildings as required

Drives District dump trucks to sludge sites.

Prepares for inclement weather by taking necessary precautions including, but not limited to, checking the condition of heat tape, boarding up windows, and securing any loose equipment if necessary; and

Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

High school graduate or equivalent;

Ability to read, write and speak English language

Skill/Ability to: work under general supervision; follow oral or written instructions; demonstrate proficiency in oral or written communication; operate and maintain a variety of power and manual tools and equipment; tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather conditions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers; and maintain appropriate necessary certifications, Texas driver's license applicable to job responsibilities, and good driving record. Ability to perform strenuous manual labor under adverse weather conditions; ability to learn job duties from oral instructions or demonstrations and request supplies and materials orally or in writing. Must be able to lift and maneuver 50 pounds.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

High school graduation, or its equivalent;

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED

Appropriate Texas driver's license (Class A or Class B CDL), within 90 days from employment.
