Main Job responsibilities

Cancer Fund for Children is the leading voluntary organisation working for children, teenagers and young adults living with cancer and their families in Northern Ireland, providing core services across the region.

The main responsibility of the Housekeeping Assistantis to ensure that all the Cancer Fund for Children accommodation on the Shimna Valley site is clean, safe, comfortable and welcoming to all who use it.

  1. Operational Responsibilities:

1.1Ensure high standards of cleanliness throughout all guest and office accommodation, this to include,living areas, bedrooms, bathrooms and office space.

1.2Emptying waste baskets, cleaning mirrors and interior windows, dusting, vacuuming and mopping floors

1.3Replenish provisions for bathrooms e. g. replace/restock toilet rolls, hand wash and hand towels.

1.4Change beds with clean linen at the end of every family visit.

1.5Ensure efficient management of laundrywhich includes reporting any damaged or missing items to your line manager.

1.6Check and replenish stocks of Cancer Fund for children literature, newsletters, information booklets and evaluation sheets.

2General Responsibilities:

2.1Report all complaints and/or requests for specific requirements to the Head Housekeeper.

2.2Comply with all Cancer Fund for Children Policies, Procedures and guidelines and current legislative requirements.

2.3To be available for planning, review, support and appraisal meetings.

2.4To be available for ongoing development/training opportunities.

2.5To perform any other reasonable duties and specific projects as assigned by the Head Housekeeper or Hospitality Manager to contribute to the overall aims of the Cancer Fund for Children.

Person Specification

Cleaning and maintaining the site is a physically demanding role therefore the Housekeeping Assistant must be reasonably fit and able to sustain walking, standing, bending, lifting and moving around for approx 2/3 hours on any one shift period.

Essential Criteria

1Awareness of the importance of Food and Hygiene, Health and Safety and a willingness to undertake essential training in these areas

2Minimum 2 years’ experience professional cleaning and housekeeping with an awareness and knowledge of cleaning methods, products and techniques which will maintain a high standard of care.

3Experience of using cleaning tools, i.e. vacuum cleaner, dust rags,mops and maintaining them in good condition.

4Good communication skills and a confident manner, with the ability to resolve minor queries/complaints regarding the accommodation and/or site.

5Willingness to adopt a flexible work pattern including evenings, weekends, peak holiday periods and bank holiday weekends.

3Knowledge of families living with cancer

4Experience of working in a respite environment

5Knowledge of Protection of Vulnerable Children/Adult legislation
