What do we want students to know? How will we know they “got it”?

Common Assessment? N (Marty was going to cover new topics this week but I could not do that because I was going to be gone. So, I made my own quiz over the weekly content).
Instruction Reflection:
(Possible questions to answer: Were we successful? What is the focus for next week’s instruction? What should we do differently? Should we assess again? When? How? How are we going to motivate student progress?)
I think it is fairly obvious that my students cheated on the quiz. I pulled my aide aside and asked him if the kids likely had a chance to cheat and he said yes. I knew that some of them probably did because one of my students with an F got an A on the quiz. I was distressed because if 1 could cheat, many could cheat. On the other hand, some of my students that are trying hard really did well. So, I decided to count the quiz but I didn’t weight it as assessment. I am angry about this because I really meant for the quiz to let me know how much review these guys need.
Many of my students did not do the work I left for the sub. I am also not surprised by this. I told all of them that they needed to do their work on time, as I never leave busy work for the sub. I am dismayed, again, at the number of kids that actually do almost nothing in my class. This is a tough class!!

What will we do for those who didn’t? What will we do for those who did?
