Tuesdays with Morrie (p. 48-72)
In a double-entry journal, you put any significant quotes or paraphrases of significant ideas in the column on the left. Then on the right, you react to that content. Ask questions. Make inferences. Make connections (T/S, T/T, and T/W). Make predictions. Make comments. For example, you may want to agree with, disagree with, or philosophize about the statement on the left. Whatever you choose to write, your reflections show that you were engaged with the text – the hallmark of an active reader.
Quote or Paraphrase & Page Number / Reflectionsp. 49 Morrie tells Mitch that someone is going to have to wipe him soon, and that he’ll get “to be a baby one more time.”
p. 51 One day, Morrie hopes to loosen Mitch up and make him cry. Make a prediction.
p. 52 Comment on these two aphorisms:
· “The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and let it come in.”
· “Love is the only rational act.”
p. 55 Mitch liked himself better during and after his “Tuesdays with Morrie.” Reflect on how Mitch is changing.
p. 57 “I give myself a good cry if I need it. But then I concentrate on all the good things still in my life.”
p. 58 Why do you think Mitch referenced the two stories from the Boston newspaper? Make an inference.
p. 59 “Not everyone is so lucky.” Why did Morrie say this? Make an inference.
p. 59 “And I had to do something.” What do you think Mitch “had to do?” Make a prediction.
p. 61 “And if you are ever going to have other people trust you, you must feel that you can trust them, too – even when you’re in the dark. Even when you’re falling.”
p. 64 “What if today were my last day on earth?”
“We’re so wrapped up with egotistical things…” p. 64
“Is this all. Is this all I want? Is something missing?” p. 65
p. 65 “We all need teachers in our lives.”
p. 65 “If I was to be the student, then I would be as good a student as I could be.”
