Compliance Package and Cheat Sheet

# / Letter Name / Address to / Send When / Additional Text Required in Letter Body
1 / Brand New Daughter - Fathers Day / Both Parents / For Father’s Day if birth is recent / Daughter’s, Mother’s, & Father’s 1st Names
2 / Brand New Daughter - NOT Fathers Day / Both Parents / As soon after she is born as possible / Daughter’s, Mother’s, & Father’s 1st Names
3 / New Granddaughter - Fathers Day / Both Grandparents / For Father’s Day if birth is recent / Granddaughter’s & Grandfather’s 1st Names
4 / New Granddaughter - NOT Fathers Day / Both Grandparents / As soon after she is born as possible / Granddaughter’s & Grandfather’s 1st Names
5 / Older Daughter - Fathers Day / Father only / For Father’s Day—18 or younger / No additional data
6 / Older Granddaughter - Fathers Day / Grandfather only / For Father’s Day—18 or younger / No additional data
Important Note 1: We recommend you send the Older Daughter/Granddaughter letters to only the father or grandfather on Father’s Day because, given the divorce rate, the second person in the record may not be the child’s mother or grandmother and the letter might therefore be awkward.
Important Note 2: Four of these letters require the (grand)daughter’s name to be inserted. Those also include the (grand)father’s first name or nickname, and in the Daughter letters, also the mother’s. The places to fill those in are marked [like this] and, if you have set MS Word that way, are shaded because they’re fields. To replace each field, click anywhere in it to highlight the whole field, then just type replacement text. If desired, pressing <F11> takes you to the next field.

The Letters that follow are in the order shown above.

Each will be sent with a book, A Very Good Guide for Raising a Daughter

Some will be sent for Father’s Day. Others will be sent to new fathers and grandfathers throughout the year.

If you are a partnership, be sure to change the singular pronouns (I, me, my) to plural (we/We, us, our) and add the second partner’s signature to the bottom of the letter.

Dear [Cal and Grace]:

Dreams are renewable. No matter what our age or condition,
there are still untapped possibilities within us and new beauty waiting to be born.

—Rev. Dr. Dale Turner

With the birth of your daughter [Daughter’s1stName], new beauty has been born. Congratulations.

As you embark upon this journey with her, you will certainly both be heir to all the joys due parents of a daughter. You will laugh, cry, and hold your breath as she struggles, falls, gets up, falls again, but ultimately finds her way.

You will get all kinds of advice, and I want to throw my 2 cents in by offering you the enclosed book by a father and daughter team who made it from delivery room to young adulthood, all the while preserving the magic of Daddy and his girl. On the face of it, you would think it’s a book just for father and daughter. But as a daughter yourself, [Grace], I’m sure you will delight in all the chapters, especially those by “The Daughter.”

And of course, [Cal and Grace], you will enjoy the butterfly kisses, squeals of delight, and pats on a cheek. At times, you will need to be the disciplinarian and there will be still other times she will need a shoulder to cry on.

You, [Cal], will need to come up with an appropriate way to discuss dating manners with her boyfriends (the gun and shovel tactics are no longer P.C., much as fathers adore them). So youwill especially enjoy Bill’s checklist for fathers to evaluate and rank potential suitors for their daughters. And while it seems completely absurd, it’s not. As you will see, it provides a way for “The Father” to oppose choices made by “The Daughter” without opposing her.

I know the father half of the father-daughter writing team well. When I learned he and his daughter Jenny had written this book, I jumped at the chance to order some. And I am sending it to you this Father’s Day to celebrate the birth of [Daughter’s1stName].

Sincerely,

—Rev. Dr. Dale Turner

With the birth of your granddaughter [Granddaughter’s1stName], new beauty has been born. Congratulations.

As you embark upon this journey with her, you will both be heir to all of the joys of grandparents, the squeals of delight, the butterfly kisses, the pats, the stories at bedtime. Fortunately, you can delegate the role of disciplinarian, and that’s probably a good thing, because grandparents areknown softies, which is of course as it should be.

Your job is creating those special memories that your granddaughter will always hold in a special place in her heart.

But I have found it applicable to anyone who has ever been a parent, and now a grandparent. Perhaps it will become “sage advice” for the new parents of a little girl.

I know the father half of this writing team well. When I learned he and his daughter Jenny hadwritten this book, I jumped at the chance to order some. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

It’s awonderfully original book in that they are father/daughter and have that gift to touch the heart ... Through a common sense approach, they managed, despite the daily trauma of modern life, to sustain a relationship that defines that pinnacle of joy that can be found between a dad and his little (or grown up) girl.

There is a section especially devoted to The Grandfather (aka Moral Authority) that I thought you, [Cal], would enjoy. It involves a discussion you may have with her boyfriends. No doubt herfather will be more interested in the old fashioned “gun and shovel” tactics, but you as the Moral Authority will have quite a job to perform.

You’ll find the section for “The Grandfather” toward the back of the book under “The DAD (Dads against Dating) Checklist.” I trust you will get as many chuckles from reading it as I did.

So I am sending you this book for Father’s Day to celebrate the birth of [Granddaughter’s1stName].

Sincerely,
