AHOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR PHILLIP “PHIL” RODNEY PERRY, A NATIVE OF SALUDA COUNTY, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER THIRTYEIGHT YEARS OF OUTSTANDING DEDICATION TO CLEMSON UNIVERSITY EXTENSION SERVICE, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina are pleased to learn that Phillip “Phil” Rodney Perrywas honored on Saturday, January 18, 2014, surrounded by family and friends as he began his welldeserved retirement from Clemson University Extension Service; and

Whereas, since earning a bachelor’s in 1975 and a master’s in 1982, both indairy science from Clemson University, hehas served the agricultural communities of Lexington, Richland, and Saluda counties as the county extension agent, providing expertise on timber, crops, livestock, and other agricultural commodities to improve the agricultural economy in the Palmetto State; and

Whereas, as an advisor and mentor to the Saluda County 4H Youth Development program overthe years, Mr. Perry has coached many dairy and livestock 4H judging teams to state team winners and state individual winners; and

Whereas, his numerous honors include the 1996 Educator of the Year Award from the South Carolina Cattlemen’s Association and the Certificate of Merit in 1999 from the South Carolina Association of County Agricultural Agents, as well as that year’s Certificate of Achievement from the South Carolina Economic Development Institute; and

Whereas, in 2000, he received the Honors Award from the South Carolina Jersey Cattle Association and the Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of County Agricultural Agents in 2001; and

Whereas, an inducteeof the South Carolina Dairy Hall of Fame at Clemson University in 2008, he was named an honorary member of the Clemson University Block and Bridle Club in 2012; and

Whereas, for his dedication and commitment to mentoring students interested in dairy and livestock, Mr. Perry received an honorary degree from the FFA chapter at Saluda High School, his alma mater, in 2008, and the Distinguished Service Award from the Saluda County Forestry Association in 2013; and

Whereas, he served the Saluda County Cattlemen’s Association for years and received the Cattleman of the Year Award in 2013; and

Whereas, together with his beloved wife of thirtythree years, Kay Peebles Perry, he reared two fine children and plans to spend many happy hours of retirement enjoying his family and friends; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciate the years of devoted service that Phil Perry has rendered to Clemson University Extension Service and wish him years of enjoyment in his wellearned retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Phillip “Phil” Rodney Perry, a native of Saluda County, upon the occasion of his retirement after thirtyeight years of outstanding dedication to Clemson University Extension Service, and wish him continued success and happiness in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Phillip “Phil” Rodney Perry.
