The California Council for the Promotion of History (CCPH) is pleased to announce that registration is now underway for this year’s annual conference, “’If You Ain’t Go the Do-Re-Mi’: Booms and Busts in California History,” scheduled for October 22-24 in beautiful and historic Monterey. The sessions are diverse in terms of subject matter, geography, and time period, the conference sites and roaming sessions excellent, and Monterey is, of course, a wonderful place to visit.

CCPH recognizes the realities of the current economic situation and its impact on so many of us who work for or support local and state history; in response, we have worked hard to retain the conference’s traditional high quality while simultaneously making every effort to keep costs down. Thanks to our local State Parks leadership, we have a wonderful conference site in the Cooper-Molera Adobe. We also have support from the City of Monterey with the use of the Council Chambers located next to Colton Hall. In addition, rather than having the conference headquartered in one of the big expensive hotels (@ $140 - $180+ per night), we have secured special convention rates of $89 - $99 at the Downtown Travelodge located a short block away from Cooper-Molera. In addition, we think you will find our special event venues, Crespi Hall at the Carmel Mission; Stokes Adobe; and the MaritimeMuseum great places to eat and chat with old and new friends. It’s a win-win situation; conference attendees get to enjoy locations with more history and character than the traditional convention space, while the reduced rates allow CCPH to keep conference rates as low as possible.

We are also pleased to announce the return of our popular roaming sessions. These on-the-move sessions, offered on Friday afternoon, will provide the opportunity for conference attendees to explore the Monterey area with the guidance of a stellar group of local experts. The logistics and topics are explained in more detail in the program. Spaces in each session are limited (although all will be accommodated), so we encourage you to sign up early if you have a strong first choice preference.

A downloadable registration form is also available on the website.

See you in Monterey!
