  • FINAL (Thursday, December 11, 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM)

150 pointsChapters 15, 17, 16, 13, 12, re-read 83-97, 94-98, 112-119. 123-124. The Final Exam is comprehensive (see below).

  • Research Participation (complete by December 02, 9:25 AM)

Exams:

Exams I and II are each 50 multiple-choice questions. Half the questions on Exams I & II will be from the book; the other half will be from lectures. Each question is worth one point.

The final exam has 75 questions. It is comprehensive. Each question on the final examination is worth two points. On the Final, 100 points (50 questions) will be from new material. The new material for the Final Exam is: The lectures, and Chapters 15, 17, 16, 13, 12, re-read 83-97, 94-98, 112-119. 123-124.. The remaining 50 points (25 questions) on the Final Exam will cover the earlier parts of the course.

Paper:

All students must do a paper for up to 50 points. Select one of the following books, read it, then write a paper of at least 1,000 words excluding titles, quotes, and references (typed double space on normal typing paper). The paper should answer the following questions:

1.Would the behavior and experiences of the main character of this book seem abnormal to some people? Discuss these unusual behaviors or experiences.

2.Under what classification of mental disorders does the main character seem to fit best? How does he/she fit? How does he/she not fit?

3.What do you think were the causes of the main character(s)' unusual behavior?

The paper will be graded (0 to 50 points) on the following basis:

1. evidence book was read and understood

2. creative, original thought

3. correct spelling, grammar, and format

4. understandable prose

Research Participation:

All students must participate in some research activity as assigned by the instructor. This requirement may be fulfilled in one of two ways:

1) Being a research subject. If the student participates in research assigned by the instructor (4 hours), he/she is credited with 2 points per hour or 8 points.

or

2) Research article summary. If the student does not wish to be a research subject he/she may obtain the 8 points credit by reading any article in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology and writing a 200 word summary of the article. The student receives 2 points credit for each summary completed. These summaries must be typed, double spaced, with a copy of the article attached. No summary will be accepted after 9:25 AM December 02.
