Lewisham Hospital Campaign – Strategy Motion
This Meeting notes:
The Lewisham Hospital Campaign was founded as a United Front of different groups and individuals all working to save the hospital. The success of the Campaign came from the unity of the Campaign leading to tens of thousands of people marching together (No one group could have achieved this alone).
Lewisham Hospital Workers were central to the demonstrations and were at the front of them.
The success of the Campaign in saving Lewisham Hospital gained national and international recognition - the Campaign has been a beacon of hope to the other Hospital Campaigns.
The aftermath of the success of the Campaign has also left people wondering where the Campaign’s direction is headed now.
The Campaign pledged to support the M22 Anti-Racist day of Action and the Banner was taken on the Parade in central London.
The Campaign has always seen itself as defending the whole NHS and continuing to fight for this and against the Governments legal initiatives to destroy the NHS.
The continuing attacks on the NHS through privatisation and tendering out of services.
The success of the Campaign in stopping SERCO from taking over Procurement at Lewisham Hospital
This Meeting Pledges:
For the Campaign to keep working together in a united way.
To support Health Workers - who maybe striking in the future for a Pay Rise (many could see this as a fight for the future of the NHS and against the Government’s Austerity Policies). Both UNISON and UNITE said on the week before the budget that they would be considering strike action.
To continue to pledge support for other striking workers in the NHS whether they are employed by the NHS or by privatised companies.
To continue to speak out against the Government scapegoating migrants, and blaming them for the cuts in the health service.
