Post:General Fundraising Assistant – Grant and Corporate support

Based:Office, Birmingham

Responsible to:Chief Executive

Salary:£18,000 to £21,000 per annum

Hours:35 hours per week

Entitlements: 25 days annual leave per annum and 8 statutory bank holiday days

Little Hearts Matter

Little Hearts Matter was set up in 1994 by parents of children with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. In 2002 the charity expanded its support service to all children, young people and their families where a single ventricle cardiac disorder had been diagnosed, changing its name to Little Hearts Matter in the autumn of 2003 to reflect the new service that it provides.

Aims of the Charity
  • To offer support and information to children, young people, their families and carers where there has been a diagnosis of a single ventricle condition.
  • To be a voice for the needs of children with complex congenital heart disease and their families.
  • To work with medical, educational and social teams to further the care of children and young people with single ventricle heart conditions.
  • To support research into the care, treatment and lifestyle of children and young people with complex heart disease.
  • To raise funds to support the above.

Fundraising within Little Hearts Matter

All LHM service are free to the membership and the charity supplies all of the cardiac units with information that can be used to support the understanding of complex congenital heart conditions and their treatments at no cost. It is therefore essential that the charity’s fundraising initiatives are broad and varied as there is no state or private support for the services that the charity offers and the fundraising marketplace requires maximising any income opportunity.

The Fundraising Assistant will be part of the charity team working predominantly on the charity’s income generation initiatives but also working with the whole team to ensure that members receive the services that they require.

Specific Areas of Responsibility

  • Researching potential grants. Managing grants throughout the application process (tracking deadlines andrequesting feedback).
  • Researching potential corporate supporters. Providing a first point of contact for corporate supporters, providing fundraising support materials as requested.
  • Creating a corporate and grant database.
  • Supporting the Impact Assessment Project.
  • Completing applications for sources of funding in partnership with the service and awareness team.
  • Collating grant and corporate applications.
  • Engaging potential fundraisers through the use of documentation, websites, social media and newsletters.
  • Using the family’s stories to appeal to potential funders.
  • Building a database of media contacts that can be used to highlight corporate partnerships.
  • Seeking on pack promotion and providing the LHM link with companies.
  • The writing of corporate contracts in partnership with the CE and Finance and General Purposes team.
  • Inputting into the fundraising strategy.
  • Working with the fundraising team to create links with companies and individuals who may provide income or support.
  • Attending fundraising training opportunities.
  • Research into new fundraising opportunities
  • Work within the fundraising team to produce monthly activity and income and expenditure reports.
  • Looking into to further developing online fundraising and awareness through apps, widgets, twibbons, infographics, micro fundraising sites.
  • To work in partnership with the fundraising team to develop the Legacies policy.
  • To work in partnership to develop and support fundraising events.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Good database skills
  • Internet, Website and Facebook skills
  • An understanding of Social media
  • 2 years Fundraising Experience and/or qualifications
  • or post graduate from a research/communications based degree.
Essential Skills and Knowledge
  • Must be computer literate, proficient in the use of Microsoft office suite, databases and spreadsheets.
  • Data computer input experience.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to work independently or as part of a small team.
