Job Purpose

Supervising / Contract / Full time fixed term (subject to funding)30 hrs 9am to 3.15pm plus 5 inset
Key Responsibilities / Supporting Students
  • To be familiar with the needs of SEN and Children in Care pupils and to anticipate their needs with regard to learning, behaviour and organisation.
  • To be familiar with, or to assess quickly the learning objectives and content of a lesson.
  • In liaison with the teacher, to decide upon the best ways of helping targeted CiCstudents to access the materials and to undertake the tasks.
  • In liaison with the teacher, to differentiate tasks appropriately where this is possible.
  • To assist students with physical needs
  • To help promote independent learning.
  • To promote the development of organisational and study skills.
  • To avoid completing tasks for a student who makes no input.
  • To help keep students on task, to provide positive reinforcement and to build motivation.
  • To help build the confidence of all CiCstudents and to enhance their self-esteem/confidence.
  • To help supervise practical tasks
  • To participate in the assessment of tasks
  • When assigned to support individual students, to keep appropriate records and to monitor progress.
  • To contribute to review meetings.
To be able to deliver the learning to groups of students as directed by the class teacher or Head of Faculty
Preparation and assessment.
Where time is allocated for such tasks:
  • To meet with teachers of assigned classes to contribute to planning lessons and activities.
  • To help prepare materials and resources.
  • To help differentiate materials
  • To help assess work.
To help display work.
Other duties and Requirements
  • To attend faculty and department meetings as directed by the Head of Faculty
  • To act as a reader or scribe for students who are granted special access arrangements for examinations
  • To provide learning support for statemented/EHCP students
  • To attend AEN specific training events as directed
  • To provide reports on specific students for the AEN faculty, for House and for faculty as required
  • To accompany students on educational visits as required
  • To liaise with CiC Support & Safeguarding Officer and measure the impact of the support given
