Rev Robert Banks was born on 22 June 1650 at Beck Hall, Giggleswick, Yorkshire. He was the son of Robert Banks and Margaret Frankland.

Robert studied at Christs' College, Cambridge University, from 3 May 1667. Robert Banks was admitted sizar (aged 17) at Christ's 3 May 1667. Son of Robert, of Beck Hall, Giggleswick. Born there. School - Giggleswick. Matric 1667, B.A. 1670/1, M.A. 1675. Robert was a clergyman from 1671. Robert was Rector at Thrybergh, Yorkshire, from 29 June 1671 to 1678. An unknown person married an unknown person on 10 June 1678 at Darrington, Yorkshire. Robert Banks, parson of Huton Robard & Margaret Thornton, married the 10th June 1678.. Robert was the Rector at Hooton Roberts, Yorkshire, from 9 August 1678. Robert was the Vicar at Conisburgh, Yorkshire, from 12 March 1679/80 to 1681. Robert was named in the in 1680 militia list taken at Hooton Roberts, YKS. Hutton Roberts: the only entry is for Mr Robert Banks who was chargable for one pikeman.

It would appear that he was privy to the secret burial of the Earl Strafford (beheaded 1641) as he buried "the execellent Lady Elizabeth, the Countess of Strafford" on April 11 1688. She had asked to be buried at night with no marker, and it seems that she joined her husband and daughter in a shallow grave under the flagstones of the church. Their remains were unearthed in 1912. He lived at Hooton Roberts, YKS, in 1688. Robert was Prebendary at Southwell, Nottinghamshire, from 26 February 1688/89 to 1695. Prebendary of Southwell 26 Feb 1688-95; of York (Stettington) 8 May 1695 till his death 1714. Author of a Sermon on Psalm cxix 136, 20 Sep 1699, to a Society for the Reformation of Manners. Robert was the vicar at Holy Trinity, at Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire, from 6 May 1689. On 26 May 1689 William III wrote to the mayor and corporation of Kingston upon Hull acknowledging receipt of an instrument under their seal nominating Banks as Vicar of Holy Trinity, Hull, requesting the royal approval of Bank's election, in accordance with the Act of Chas II separating Trinity Chapel from Hessle and making it a parish church; the request was granted. Banks canvassed at a parliamentary election for Benjamin Isaacs, who was a Jew, and it was said that dame Banks was descended from a Jewish family. He was prebendary of York from 1696 to 1715. Robert was Prebend at York, Yorkshire, from 1695.

Rev Robert Banks paid the poll tax between 1695 and 1697 at Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire. 1695 Poll tax: Mr Robert Bankes, Prebend, Mrs Margt Bankes, Robert Bankes, Ann Bankes, Hamond Bankes, Wm Bankes dead, Sarh.? Bankes dead, Eliz. Bankes, Milissant Bankes, Joseph Bankes.

1697: Mr Robt Banks, widd. and 5/6 children.

Rev Robert Banks was mentioned in the will of Rev Robert Banks dated 27 September 1698.

Rev Robert Banks married Millicent Rodes, daughter of Sir Edward Rodes and Mary Whitchcote, on 21 January 1700 at Wath upon Dearne, Yorkshire. She was the widow of Charles Hutton of Poppleton, Yks. She had no issue.

19 Aug 1707: The fine levied by Joshua Rayner of Gt. Houghton and Mary his wife to Robert Banks of Kingston-upon-Hull, clerk and another of 5 messuages, 4 cottages, 100 acres of land, 40 acres of meadow, 100 acres of pasture, 40 acres of heath in Woodhouse; Beghall or Beal, par. Kellington, and Skelmanthorpe par. High Hoyland. shall be for payment of debts of the said Mary, contracted before her marriage and to raise the portions of her children by her first marriage with William Rodes, deceased.

Robert died on 3 November 1714 at Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire, aged 64.

Robert Banks was born on 27 March 1630 at Giggleswick, Yorkshire. He was the son of Robert Banks and Ann Pudsey.

He was a Royalist officer circa 1645. Hunter states that he was a gentleman who had been an officer under Sir John Reresby in the garrison at Bridlington - where a fort had been erected by Charles II for the protection of colliers and others trading to the northward.

Robert Banks married Margaret Frankland, daughter of John Frankland and Jane Unknown (Browne) (Frankland), circa 1649 at England.

Robert Banks was mentioned in the 1672 hearth tax list at Giggleswick, YKS, with 6 hearths. Robert Banks had 6 hearths, there were 2 Williams with 4 and 2 hearths, also a John with 1 hearth there.

He sold Beck Hall in 1688 for £700. He had then already moved to Levens in Westmorland. Either then or soon afterwards Margaret left him and lived with her brother Richard Frankland at Rathmell. According to Frankland's will (dated 27 Sep 1698) Margaret had eaten at his table for 7 or 8 years, and no payment had been made for her maintenance. In a passage that breathes of justice rather than affection Frankland released his brother-in-law Robert Banks and Margaret his wife for all claims for "tabling" her for such a period. In another passage he discharged his nephew Joseph Banks of Sheffield for all claims for the "tabling" provided he released to him all such goods as had lately belonged to Robert, and had been granted by Robert to Joseph for Margaret's maintenance. This having been done, he bequeathed 20 shillling to Robert, £4 to Margaret, and 5 shillings each to Joseph, his wife, and their two children. Robert's elder son Robert, then of Hull, and his children were to have 10 shillings each. [Banks papers p.x]. He lived at Levens, Westmorland, England, in 1688.

Robert died on 27 September 1711 at Scofton, Worksop, Nottinghamshire, aged 81.
