Student: Events Insight and Runners

Introduction

The Press Night of a new theatre production is often followed by a party, and for a musical the size and creativity needs to grab people’s attention so a buzz is made in the Press to promote the show.

Cameron Mackintosh's acclaimed new production of Miss Saigon is making its highly anticipated return to the West End in May2014, and we are working with the First Night party producer Sue Uings to give students an insight into Event Management and the opportunity to be a runner on the night.

If you would like to be part of the Events team on the night (21 May), you will need to attend the Events Insight on Thursday 8 May (11am – 1pm) at the Prince Edward Theatre, Old Compton Street, and answer the following question as part of a written application.

PLEASE NOTE: The Runners roles are placements but will have their travel and food reimbursed for the day, and are likely to be working from 10am till midnight on 21 May, with breaks and a full-health and safety briefing with the rest of the events team. For this reason all candidates must be over 18 years of age.

Please book your place on the insight and send your answer to by Thursday 1 May. Please give us your name, college, a tutor contact and confirm you are over 18 years and are free all day on 21 May, within your e-mail response.

QUESTION: ‘You are assisting the Event Manager on the opening night of Miss Saigon, and as part of the day you have been asked to meet the catering team to take them around to their set-up area. They have turned up later than the schedule has them down for and it appears they have not asked for enough power sockets for their equipment. The venue is using a Generator for the night, so someone will need to speak to an electrician to resolve the situation. There is no right or wrong answer, so what would you consider before dealing with the situation; bearing in mind you have only been asked to take them around to their location?

Answers should be between 200 and 500 words
