A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in honor and loving memory of Katherine Wilson.

WHEREAS, Katherine Wilson was born on January 10, 1908, in Harrison County to parents James T. and Georgia Goodwin Wilson; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Wilson graduated from Cynthiana High School in 1926, and the University of Kentucky in 1930; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Wilson also studied library science at Columbia University and later served as the librarian at Cynthiana High School; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Wilson's career lead her to employment stints in New York with the Deloitte, Plender, and Griffith accounting firm on Wall Street and Adelphi College on Long Island; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Wilson was instrumental in the creation of the Armed Forces Library at Fort Knox, one of her many notable accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Wilson joined the American Red Cross and served during World War II; and

WHEREAS, during her three years of service with the American Red Cross, Katherine landed on Omaha Beach, 13 days after D-day, traveled across Europe, and was present during the Battle of the Bulge; and

WHEREAS, later in life, Katherine Wilson managed a gift shop on the SS Brazil, a cruise ship from Buenos Aires, Argentina; and

WHEREAS, in Cynthiana, Katherine Wilson was a columnist for two weekly local newspapers, The Cynthiana Log Cabin, and The Cynthiana Democrat; and

WHEREAS, the literary accomplishments of Katherine Wilson include a Kentucky Press Association award for best hometown column, "Have You Heard," and This Old House, a book now in its fourth printing and valued for its photographs and history of old homes in Harrison County; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Wilson was a "50 year survivor" and was active in the American Cancer Society; and

WHEREAS, in 1969, Katherine Wilson organized the "Thursday club," for senior citizens, a club that was active for over 30 years. For several summers, she provided local children the opportunity to attend Salvation Army Camp in Ohio; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Wilson was a lifelong Presbyterian and one of the church's first female elders. She served her world with faithfulness, creativity, and joy; and

WHEREAS, on January 4, 2012, Katherine Wilson traversed these earthly bounds at the blessed age of 103; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Wilson is survived by nephew James Evans (Leslie Anne) Wilson of Cynthiana, niece Kay Allen Wilson (Wyman Rice) of Lexington, two great nephews: James Patton Wilson and Will Carroll both of Cynthiana, a great niece Lauren Carroll (Asa) Pham of Lexington, and a dear friend, Janet McCauley of Cynthiana;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

âSection 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its most profound sense of sorrow and offers its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Katherine Wilson.

âSection 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Katherine Wilson.

âSection 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit two copies of this Resolution to James Wilson and Kay Wilson, in care of Leslie Wilson, 620 Allen Pike, Cynthiana, Kentucky 41031-9689.
