Sub plans for 10/3/17

Good morning and thank you for subbing for me today. Today we are on a regular bell schedule, the schedules are posted on the wall by the windows at the front of the room. Today you will be taking over my math classes. I teach one intensive math class (period 1) that has 6th – 8th grade students. This class is for students who are significantly behind in math. They are really well behaved and you will really enjoy them. Periods 2, 3, and 4 are my KEMS which is math support for students who are just a little behind. I teach one core math class 5th period and it is full and will be your most challenging class. I made a power point presentation with directions for each class. Everything will be posted on my webpage for easy access or you can click on the following hyperlink and it will take you directly to my Sub Plans Page. Sub Plans Page There will be a copy of my sub plans in the substitute manual that you pick up in the office.

You can also get to my webpage by going to Chinook Middle School homepage and select teacher pages. You will see a link with my name and it will take you to my webpage. From my homepage click on the link that says sub plans. Open the power point and it will have directions for each class. When you are in projector mode, you can use the page up and page down buttons on the left side of the remote to change between slides. The remote is on the front teacher table by the white board. There is also a wireless keyboard and mouse if you would prefer those to transition between slides.

General Notes
I don’t anticipate any problems but just in case, these two extensions will get the front office and they can provide any assistance you may need. Extension 36120 will get you Karmen Galvin and 36117 will get you Kris Garrett. Also I take first lunch which is after second period. My planning period is during 4th period.

Emergency: All the emergency plans are in the substitute binder that you picked up in the office. If by chanced you need to evacuate the building the most important thing it to grab the orange bucket and the sign with my name. Then head out to the field behind the school.

Bathroom: Students are expected to use the bathroom during their passing time. I don’t let them use it in the first 10 minutes or the last 10 minutes unless it is an emergency. If I do let them go to the bathroom, they need to fill out the passport section of their binder and then just initial in the box that says teacher. They leave their planner here and then grab the bathroom pass by the door. If they go somewhere other than the bathroom, they need to fill out the passport which is in the back of their planner. Then just use my stamp which is by my computer. If they don’t have their planner then fill out a blue hall pass. They are located on the front table.

Warrior Points: Next to my computer there is a stack of purple Pride Points which we use to recognize students who are making good choices. I typically hand out to students who come into class and get busy filling in their planner. When the students see me handing them out often they will get busy doing what they are supposed to do. Feel free to hand out liberally.

Misbehavior: If a student is disruptive or disrespectful you can call Academy which is basically ISS and either Laura or Sharon can come down and help the student get back on track. If they can’t get back on track they will send take them to portable 8. Hopefully you won’t need to use them. If there is a student who is having even minor issues, please let me know the student’s name and I will call parents when I get back.

Substitute Manual: In the manual you will find a list of students for each period. I also created a seating chart and I believe they are up to date. Also you will find notes about students who have allergies and 504 plans.

Passing Time: Teachers are expected to be in the hall during passing time monitoring students and greeting them. I usually let my students begin entering the classroom early to reduce crowding in the hallway. I can stand at the door and monitor the classroom and the students in the hallway. Once the one minute bell rings then I come into the classroom.

9:20-10:20 Period 1: This is my intervention class and I have half the class on the computer while I do small group pull out with the other half. Today I would like them all to do i-ready the first half of class and then do Khan Academy the second half. The students are very familiar with both programs so there should be no problem with accessing the programs.

Period 2, 3, and 6: I would them to work on the chromebooks and do Khan Academy. I gave each class several assignments to complete on Khan Academy. Some students have been struggling with logging onto Khan Academy. Tell them to go to my webpage and go to the How To documents page. There are directions on how to get to Khan Academy. If they still can’t log on then there are some math work sheets in a manila folder on my desk. They can do some one of the work sheets. There should be enough assignments to keep them busy for the entire period but if they do finish all of the assignments they can pick another 6th grade math strand to work on. Remind them, if they get stuck there is a video on each assignment to show them how to solve the problem. There is one student Torry Rucker who is very new. I am hoping that Kaleo will be able to show him how to log onto Khan Academy and then show him how to add me as a coach. The class code is on the sheet on the whiteboard up where the date is but you can just tell them the code is 3FUP6T. If he can’t get logged on then have him just go to Khan Academy and work on 6th grade math numbers and operations. I am sure Kaleo will be able to help him with that.

Period 5: For 5th period I would also like them to log onto Khan Academy and do the lessons that I assigned. If they finish early then encourage them to search for problems involving Greatest Common Factor or Least Common Multiple. They will taking a test on Thursday that covers these topics so they can probably use the extra practice.

I hope all goes well, overall this is a really nice bunch of kids. 5th period can be the most challenging mainly because it is such a large class. Tell them if I get a good report from you, I will bring in treats on Friday.

Thank you
