Injury report includes care or treatment from the MGHS Athletic Trainer.

Majority of time and effort is put into evaluation, immediate treatment, rehabilitation and preventative

taping or bracing, and follow up and referral. Injury statistics do not reflect student-athletes who come in multiple times during the season (days/weeks) for continued treatment, observation, and rehabilitation. This occurs quite frequently, thus increasing the overall traffic and necessity of the Athletic Training Room.

Beginning the 2010-11 School year, MGHS implemented ImPACT baseline concussion testing on our athletes. This is a tool utilized to aid medical professionals in the determination of when an athlete is fully able to return-to-play after sustaining a head injury. Between the 2010 – 2012 school years 446 of our student athletes have been baseline tested. Testing occurs on a 2 year cycle. Thus, for the 2012 – 13 school year, seniors, juniors, and freshmen will be tested, along with any new participants or athletes to the district. Athletes participating in all levels of football, boys and girl’s soccer, volleyball, boys and girl’s basketball, boys and girl’s hockey, baseball, softball, and boys and girls participating in the high jump and pole vault, are currently tested. These sports were chosen due to the nature of the sport and prevalence for head injuries.
