Location: Bliss’ headoffice, London SE1

Terms: Voluntary; ideal commitment of twoor more days a week for approximately three months(depending on your availability)

Role Description

Main purpose of the role

To contribute to the work of the Communications Team by helping to create a new suite of images for Bliss publications, website and social media. You will be helping to update the Bliss brand by conducting image research and working with teams across Bliss to identify their photography needs. With the support of the Senior Communications Officer, you will organise and manage photo shoots on neonatal unitswith the families that Bliss supports.

The Communications Intern will develop their skills and knowledge of charity branding, design and digital. We will support you to improve your organisational skills and give you avaluable insight into working in the charity sector. There is also an opportunity to get involved with other aspects of charity communications, such as digital, media relations and charity magazines, if you have an interest in any of these areas. In return for your time and commitment you will receive expenses for your lunch and travel within Greater London.

Reporting structure

You will be responsible to the Senior Communications Officer.

Specific tasks

The Communications Volunteer Intern will work with the Communications Team on a range of activities including:

  • Helping to organise and attend photoshoots on neonatal units and with families
  • Assisting with an audit of Bliss’ extensive image library and supporting the day to day running of the library
  • Working with teams across Bliss to help identify their photography needs
  • Researching digital imagery
  • Helping to create image guidelines for staff
  • Provide supportto the Communications Team in other areas if required

Person Specification

In addition to having the qualities and skills listed below, the successful applicant will be enthusiastic with a desire to learn aboutcharity communications.

  • Excellentwritten and verbal communications skills
  • Interest in photography
  • Understanding of brand
  • Organisational skills
  • Able to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Good attention to detail
  • Strong IT skills
  • Desirable - interest in neonatal care / infant health and the charity sector
  • Desirable - experience of using website CMS and social media
  • Desirable - experience of Microsoft publisher and/or Adobe InDesign
  • Able to demonstrate commitment to the aims and objectives of Bliss
