CERCS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Dear CERCS Student:
The Center for Experimental Research in Computer Systems (CERCS) will sponsor a summer Internship Program beginning this summer to create opportunities for graduate students to perform research and gain hands-on work experience in public and private sector environments. The program will be housed in the CERCS Office and chaired by Jennifer Chisholm.
MISSION:
The mission of CIP is to provide CERCS graduate students with a gateway to research internships in computer systems work environments.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
The CERCS Internship Program (CIP) will provide interns with the opportunity to integrate their academic skills and progress with real-world, practical work experiences in their field of study.
Objectives:
1. To enable graduate students to perform research at computer companies
2. Augment the student’s academic progress of classroom theory by applying practical training.
3. To enable students to bridge the gap between college life and post-graduate employment while exploring and creating career opportunities.
v Eligibility Requirements:
· You must be a CERCS Graduate student in good and regular standing
· You must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in your major
· You must the approval of a CERCS faculty member
· Commit to a 10-12 week placement for 40 hours per week
v Student Responsibilities:

· Request faculty recommendations
· Initiate contact with CERCS faculty member
· Upload your information at http://kingkong.cc.gatech.edu/cercs-cip (available only from GT).
· Clarify learning objectives and internship goals
· Negotiate contract terms (work schedules, job descriptions that support learning goals and objectives, and compensation, if appropriate)
· Present a 30 minute Georgia Tech brown bag oral presentation (CERCS Seminar) the semester following your internship
· Complete Student Progress Report form and return it to CERCS at least one week after internship
v Getting Started:
Submit internship application, resume and two (2) faculty recommendations to Susie McClain or KACB 3336.
CERCS will forward your internship file to the appropriate companies and will arrange interview time according to the company’s specifications. Interviews can be conducted in several ways.
1. CAMPUS INTERVIEW – CERCS will reserve a room in CoC and setup an interview schedule.
2. SITE INTERVIEW – For interviews at your location, we ask the industry partner to provide travel funding, if necessary.
3. TELEPHONE INTERVIEW – CERCS will facilitate phone contacts, if necessary.
In some instances, CERCS will match the intern's background and interest to that of the company job description.
