SeaCity Cruise Bus Steward Volunteer

Role:Assisting with facilitating a free shuttle service between cruise liners and SeaCity Museum. You will be helping in a key customer service role and be an ambassador for SeaCity and Southampton more generally. This is a perfect opportunity for people interested in experience in the tourism industry and for those interested in promoting Southampton.

Responsible to: Andy Skinner (Volunteer Co-ordinator) and Steve Newell (Visitor Services Manager (Commercial)) and the Front of House team member attending the terminal.

Location: Cruise Terminals; travel will be provided from SeaCity museum pick up and drop off point.

Hours: Days are fixed to when the shuttle bus is running (30 dates between March and September 2015). Hours are between 8:15am-4:15pm maximum. You will need to be available for weekdays, particularly Mondays and Tuesdays.

Timescale: Once you have submitted your Registration form, you may be invited to attend an informal interview with the Volunteer Co-ordinator and Visitor Services Manager to discuss the role.

If you are selected to be one of the volunteers, you will need to attend an induction session as soon as possible after the informal meeting with staff members. This, and any questions or queries you may have, can be discussed in your meeting.

1. Purpose of role:Primarily a customer service role, volunteers will actively engage members of the public, promote what Southampton has to offer and actively encourage and direct passengers to the shuttle service. Also opportunities may arise to follow a script on the shuttle between venues to the public informing them of our venue offers either in English or German if the skillset matches.

2. Specific tasks:

  • Meeting and greeting visitors at the cruise terminal
  • Being on hand to direct visitors and answer any queries about the shuttle service
  • Promoting SeaCity Museum to visitors
  • Promoting what Southampton has to offer
  • Potential of delivering a script to the shuttle passengers in either English or German

3. General role:

  • To act as a representative and ambassador for Arts and Heritage
  • To promote the health and safety of passengers, staff and volunteersby following designated procedures
  • To work within the Volunteer Guidelines and relatedorganisational policies (i.e. Child Protection; Grievance &

Disciplinary; Equalities; Access)

  • German speaking is desirable but not essential.

5. DBS Check:

This role does not usually require a DBS check. This can be discussed in more detail at your informal meeting with the Volunteer Co-ordinator and Supervisor.
