A group of local people is working on a project to run a community-owned greengrocer in Bruntsfield, Bruntsfield Community Greengrocer, which will be trading as Dig In. The shop will be owned and managed by a co-operative that is registered as a Community Benefit Society under the Industrial & Provident Societies Act 1965 with the Financial Conduct Authority, number 2778 RS, with a Committee elected by the shareholder members.

In summary the main applicable terms and conditions are as follows:

  • You can purchase a share from the age of 5 years.
  • The minimum share investment is £25; the maximum permitted is £20,000
  • Each shareholder is entitled to be nominated and vote for the election of members to the Committee at the Annual General Meeting.
  • Each shareholder has one vote irrespective of the number of shares held.
  • Interest can be paid on the shares if the surplus (profit) from trading is sufficient.
  • The value of shares of a deceased shareholder may be transferred to another person in accordance with his/her wishes.
  • After a minimum of 5 years and at the discretion of the Committee, share capital may be withdrawn upon giving due notice, provided that sufficient funds are available.
