Reflection

What I have learned from this assignment is that every detail that you write in your directions is important, even if it may seem obvious. When writing your directions, you have to put yourself in the shoes of the person reading it. First of all, they have no picture to guide them through each step, plus they don’t know the name of the object to get an idea of how it looks. So when writing the directions a few details may seem unnecessary, but you have to remember you know what you are doing and they don’t.

After reading the feedback and looking at the pictures, I was impressed that the projects came out perfect. The only problems were that I didn’t specify which type of cardboard and on step14 I wasn’t clear on if the second cut out circle should go on top or bottom of the other one.

When trying to follow the directions of others I found myself lost and confused on a few steps resulting in not completing the object. With one FOP I was so close in completing it but one of the last steps were confusing and I had no clue what it was supposed to be and frustrated me. I gave each person comments on where I found myself lost hopefully this will help them write clearer directions.

The changes I have made to my original directions were, I specified that any cardboard will do and I made step 14 clearer on where to place the cutout circle. Also I have spaced out the steps and made the font a little bigger to make it easier to read and follow.

Building Your FOP

Parts:

·  12” X 7” Piece of cardboard (any type)

·  Sharpened pencil (not mechanical)

·  Any CD

·  Scissors

·  Glue

Directions:

1.  Make two outlines of a cd on the cardboard with a pencil

2.  Cut out the two circles you have drawn

3.  Place cd directly on top of one of the circles you have cut out

4.  Now outline the inside circle of the cd

5.  Use a sharpened pencil to poke a hole through the center of the inside circle

6.  Make sure the pencil goes all the way through

7.  Rip or pull off the eraser at the end of the pencil. So the end of the pencil is flat

8.  Take the pencil; stick it through the hole so that the flat side is sticking out about one millimeter out of the other side

9.  Make sure the pencil is standing perpendicular to the cardboard

10.  Flip it over so that you see the flat side of the pencil

11.  Place the pencil through your fingers so that the piece of cardboard is sitting on your palm.

12.  Now take the glue with your other hand and put some glue on top of the flat side of the pencil, and around the edges

13.  Then put more glue over the whole surface

14.  Take the other piece of cardboard that was cut out earlier and stick it on the bottom of the other one and hold for a few seconds

15.  Let it dry then place it on a flat surface so that the cardboard sits on the table and the sharpened side of the pencil is standing vertical
