SCENE 1

ALL STAGE LIGHTS OFF, LIGHT ON SIDE ON STORY TELLERS

STORYTELLER STELLA: Come with me now and let’s take a peek at an old story that you thought you already knew. But I’m sure there are some things that you’ll be surprised to hear. It may change some things for you – like Who you are celebrating this Christmas and Who rules and reigns in your life. (Music begins) CD 8

STORYTELLER STEVEN: It’s Bethlehem 2,000 years ago and a Child has been born. His name is Jesus. Most people were thrilled to hear the news, but some weren’t so thrilled. One of them was a king. His name was Herod.

Bring Them to Me

(Storyteller Stella, Choir, Herod, and Sherlock)

STORYTELLER STELLA SOLO:

Step back in time two thousand years,

You’ll be surprised by what you hear;

STORYTELLER AND CHOIR:

Herod is reigning and he is complaining,

He’s angry as angry can be.

So let’s step back in history, come with me!

HEROD:

I am Herod the ruler, need I say anymore? I’m the king!

CHOIR:

A fact you can’t ignore.

HEROD:

The nerve of those wise men to stand in my court

And ask me where that Baby would be born.

They followed a star on their journey;

They thought a star would lead to their king?

Ha ha! How dare they would stand in my presence; Someone go find them for me!

CHOIR:

Herod calm down and count to ten,

Herod slow down stop jumping ahead;

There’s really no reason, Your majesty,

Listen, those wise men could not hurt a flea.

HEROD:

But they’ve got something up their sleeve,

Bring them to me!

I’ll find those three wise men, they’ll be trembling with fear

I am king! I thought I made that clear!

CHOIR:

But Herod, poor Herod was raging mad for sure.

His royal highness was so insecure.

HEROD:

I told them to return to me, And that was my word, my decree.

I told them I wanted to worship.

CHOIR:

But we know he’s lying through his teeth.

CHOIR:

Herod calm down and count to ten,

Herod slow down, stop jumping ahead;

There’s really no reason, Your majesty, listen

Those wise men could not hurt a flea.

HEROD:

But they’re acting suspiciously, bring them to me!

SHERLOCK: CHOIR:

Shirley Sherlock is my name, I’m (She's) from the FBI.

SHERLOCK:

One day Herod summoned me,

SHERLOCK and HEROD:

“Sherlock, find those guys!”

SHERLOCK:

Those wise men don’t seem very wise to disobey a king;

I for one will do my best to please his majesty.

HEROD:

Bring them to me!

CHOIR:

Herod calm down and count to ten,

Herod slow down, stop jumping ahead;

There’s really no reason,

Your majesty, listen.

Those wise men could not hurt a flea.

HEROD:

I don’t trust me who travel in threes, bring them to me!

SHERLOCK:

Perhaps I was put on the earth for such a time as this,

I could become a CEO of Herod’s offices;

I’ll go get those wise men, bring them to his majesty,

I’ll be Herod’s right man, just you wait and see!

Herod, I’m on it, I’ll solve this case. (CHOIR, too)

Herod, I’ll find them, no time to waste. (CHOIR, too)

CHOIR:

There’s really no reason, your majesty, listen

SHERLOCK and CHOIR:

Those wise men won’t change history.

SHERLOCK and HEROD:

Unless the Baby could actually be the King of kings!

HEROD:

Bring them to me!

Scene 2

Storyteller Stella: See, I told you King Herod was mad.

Sherlock: (to the audience) But not mad at me. Herod called ME to get to the bottom of this mystery and find out some information on this Baby and see why those wise men didn’t come back like he ordered them to do. See, I’m Sherlock, and this is my assistant Wendy Watson. I am the chief investigator for (look both ways carefully before he says the words) the FBI.

Kids: Ssshhhhhhhhhhhh……….

Watson: That’s “From Bethlehem Investigations.” Yes, Judea’s finest.

Sherlock: Never lost a case and I don’t plan to lose this one. So, being the investigator I was trained to be, I did two obvious things: (music begins CD17) I went and got a donut (delivered by Donut Man) and headed straight over to the Bethlehem Public Library….did a little snooping around.

SONG 3: Take a Look Inside

Stella the Storyteller Solo:

Sherlock’s off to the library,

He’ll research the Baby’s ancestry;

Take a look at genealogy,

CHOIR:

He’ll uncover His family tree.

SHERLOCK:

He couldn’t be of royalty if I can be so bold,

ADD CHOIR:

Unless He fulfilled the prophecy the scriptures had foretold.

CHOIR:

He must search the scriptures line by line,

And investigate what he can find;

Every scroll of ancient history,

SHERLOCK:

I’ll solve this mystery you’ll see.

CHOIR:

Take a look inside in God’s Holy Word.

Look at the facts and not what you’ve heard

If God said it we believe it, investigate and see

There’s proof in the scriptures

He’s heaven’s royalty.

Was He really from the line of David? S &W: (Yes !)

From the tribe of Father Abraham? S&W: (Correct!)

From the mystery of history He’ll find out S: (Wow!)

He was really born in Bethlehem. S&W: (Oh, my!)

Isaiah called Him a Mighty God, S&W: (Mighty God!)

He wrote He was the Prince of Peace; S&W: (Prince of Peace!)

Everlasting Father, Emmanuel! S&W: (Everlasting Father, Emmanel!)

That’s a King to me. S&W: (Wait a minute!) 2nd Time: S&W: (That’s a King to me!)

(REPEAT with SHERLOCK & WATSON COMMENTS)

Narration begins: STORYTELLER STEVEN: This is the first time Sherlock thought he might be in just a little bit of trouble.

SHERLOCK: What have I gotten myself into?

WATSON: First rule of investigation: Find a source “in the know.” And we found one, but this one seems to be the Holy Scripture!

SHERLOCK: So I ran a little background on this Baby and found out that He might be the King of the Jews! I may be in over my head!

SHERLOCK, WATSON, LIBRARIAN and STORYTELLERS – STEVEN AND STELLA (sing red words):

CHOIR (sings blue words):

Take a look inside in God’s Holy Word.

He was really from the line of David,

Look at the facts and not what you’ve heard

From the tribe of Father Abraham;

If God said it we believe it, investigate and see

From the mystery of history we found out

There’s proof in the scriptures

He was really born in Bethlehem!

He’s heaven’s royalty.

He was really from the line of David,

Take a look inside in God’s Holy Word.

From the tribe of Father Abraham;

Look at the facts and not what you’ve heard

From the mystery of history we found out

If God said it we believe it, investigate and see

He was really born in Bethlehem!

There’s proof in the scriptures He’s heaven’s royalty.

CHOIR:

Sherlock studied at the library,

He found out the Baby’s ancestry;

God fulfilled all the prophecies,

SHERLOCK, WATSON and CHOIR:

The scripture said He was the King indeed!

Scene 3

ANGELS AND SHEPHERDS EXIT TO CHANGE

Storyteller Stella: So Sherlock was afraid that…

Sherlock: (to storyteller) I’m afraid of NOTHING!

Storyteller Steven: So Sherlock and Watson thought…..

Sherlock/Watson: We don’t THINK, We KNOW!!!

Storytellers: (Steven and Stella say frustrated) OK, OK…..

Storyteller Stella: so Sherlock and Watson KNOW that….

SHER/STOR/WAT: Herod’s NOT going to like this.

Sherlock/Watson: (To Librarian) Excuse me, miss.

Librarian: Shhhhhh! Lower your voices!

Sherlock/Watson: (Trying to make their voices sound lower) Excuse me, miss.

Librarian: Not lower, I mean quieter. This IS a library.

Sherlock: I’m Sherlock and I have huge case.

Librarian: A huge case of what? The measles? The flu? As loud as you’re speaking I wish it was laryngitis!

Sherlock: I mean we’re on a case! (Sherlock and Watson look both ways)

Sherlock/Watson: for the FBI!

Librarian: (loudly) FBI??????

Sher/Wat/kids: Now you’re shushing ME?

Watson: (flashes his/her badge) We’re on a case

Sherlock: for the BIG GUY

Librarian: The big guy?

Watson: You know, the main most man in town, the sassy sovereign…

Librarian: Who?

Sher/Wat/Kids: King Herod!!!!

Librarian: Oh… right, right, right. So, what can I do for his Royal Craziness?

Sherlock: Well, I’m investigating the birth of a Child.

Watson: One that took place here in Bethlehem.

Librarian: Which one? There are a lot of children born in Bethlehem.

Watson: Yes, but this was a Child that was supposed to be the King of the Jews.

Librarian: Oh yeah, I remember that. There was an article in the Bethlehem Star a couple years ago about that. Why don’t we step over to the computer lab and search for it?

Sherlock: (loudly) OK! Now we’re talking!
