COURSE TITLE: Advanced Pattern Drafting and Clothing

Construction

2.  COURSE DESCRIPTIONS: Explains development of a basic pattern

from personal measurements. Explores flat pattern designing from illustration and individual student sketches. Emphasizes accurate pattern and garment construction to fit the figure.

4.  PREREQUISITES: FT 215, FT 217 and concurrent

enrollment in FT 60, or consent

5.  GENERAL COURSE OBJECTIVES:

To further develop student skills in sketching, patternmaking, garment construction and fitting from individual student designs; emphasizing accuracy and neatness.

6.  STUDENT LEARNER OUTCOMES:

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

a)  Develop pant sloper

b)  Explore a variety of garment design concepts appropriate for the individual figure.

c)  Transmit ideas onto paper through sketching

d)  Translate design ideas into flat patterns

e)  Select fabrics and notions for garment design

f)  Apply appropriate methods in garment construction

g)  Apply fitting techniques to design projects and make corresponding adjustments to the flat pattern.

h)  Evaluate the design process.

i)  Maintain Project Planning, Cost and Evaluation Sheets

7.  RECOMMENDED COURSE CONTENT:

A.  Develop pant sloper – taking body measurements, pattern development, garment construction, final oaktag sloper (16 hrs.)

B.  Individual design projects (64 hrs.)

·  sketch of design concept

·  development of patterns using flat pattern techniques

·  selection of fabrics and notions

·  appropriate methods in garment construction

·  fitting of garments

·  transfer fitting adjustments to the final pattern

·  maintain Project planning, Cost and Evaluation sheets

8.  RECOMMENDED COURSE REQUIREMENTS
