Surrey Early Years and Childcare Service
The Workforce Development Advisory Team help early years and childcare settings in Surrey to recruit and retain high quality, qualified staff. The team is made up of recruitment and retention advisors and workforce development advisors.
Recruitment and retention advisors
Recruitment and retention advisorsprovide support and advice including training about staffing, retention and safer recruitment. Our services include:
- Telephone and email support.
- Recruitment and retention outreach visits where we can:
- work with you to draw up recruitment plans
- talk to you about induction processes
- help you to write job descriptions
- give you advice about safer recruitment procedures including information about supervision.
- Recruitment and retention guidance and templates like job descriptions, induction checklists and appraisals.
- Information and guidance about safer working practices.
- Safer recruitment training.
- Supervision and appraisals training.
- Men in Playwork Early Education and Childcare (MiPEC) campaign.
- Safer recruitment reviews.

Workforce development advisors
Workforce development advisorsprovide support and advice on professional development and career progression. We support early years and childcare settings in implementing a training and development plan. We also support and advise settings on their eligibility for funding such as the Workforce Development Fund. Our services include:
- Telephone and email support.
- Support visits at your setting.
- Advice on career paths, appropriate qualifications and general training for settings and individuals related to the Early Years Foundation Stage, playwork and training for home-based childcarers.
- Support with applying for the Workforce Development Fund.
- Advice on other sources of funding for professional development.
- Special Educational Needs and Disabilities group and individual bursaries.
- Support developing a training and development plan for individuals and settings.
- Advice on pathways to achieve Early Years Teacher, leadership and management training and Forest School training.
