Ideas for Participation
Promote your events and activities
Digital Learning Imperative - Different issues facing districts right now and how higher learning can help in those issues
Alliance also does work to bring leaders together regarding policies.
Digital learning definition - online learning and virtual courses are what many think of; Instead, from national . much broader “any place where technology can be leveraged to improve learning (flexible content, p.d., online assessment, foster collaboration opportunities)
Digital Learning day - focus is to lead with instruction - we sometimes focus on tools rather than the transformative aspects of instruction.
National level - cutting out.....
How might we do our own event? How do we want to brand it and how will we make it fit unique needs of each state?
A few other things about DL Day wanting to support K-12 beyond brick/mortar and bring opportunities to those in highest need.
We have opportunities to share our ideas with Sarah, so contact her with those ideas.
Lastly . Town Hall Meeting is on Feb. 6 2013 which is DL Day (and Becky Russell’s birthday!!) - National Event ...Arnie Duncan will probably be there and broadcast live.....cutting out.....
Barbara in CA....suggested using library in the publicity of this event.
If we are an orange in the website, how can we participate? If not orange, how can we still get involved?
John Brock - NY D of E is having a hard time getting behind just a single day - what’s longer range plans beyond just one day....cutting out.....She suggests focusing on Project 24....cutting out....so that it becomes ongoing rather than just one shot.
Project 24 - an initiative that is focused on helping districts do long-term planning using a framework and self-assessment accompanying that. called this because in next 24 months district’s will be making critical decisions around education, initiatives and reform.
ACTION - John suggests adding Sarah to the listserv, so send Susan her e-mail and she’ll add.
Update from Allison Cline - AASL, Deputy Executive Director
AASL was approached by Deb Kachel in Pennsylvania to present PA in mid-winter. If any of us know great research that is being done by our states that they’d like to share during this, let our state affiliate know.
Forum on Sunday (27th) at mid-winter from 1:00 - 2:30
Update from the Lilead Project – Jeff DiScala, U of MD – iPAC
PHD candidate who is working on IMLS funded Lilead - They are doing a survey of district library coordinators - survey will close on Friday the 9th.
Surveying 290 people and so far ??130?? have participated
He is looking for individuals who have not responded tothe survey...he will send out those people still not taken. So, he will send to each of us, and ask us to encourage them to take the survey.
Daria - A: Will some states be left out? Jeff - - No state is left out. For any state not 25000 students in a district, they selected largest district in the state.
Closed ended questions - Surveying titles are getting varied titles, evaluation of TL’s, funding, qualifiied applicants, staffing issues.
Open ended questions are on the survey
He’ll be e-mailing NASTEMP directly tomorrow for any additional nudges we can help provide in getting these library leaders to participate.
He’ll send a suggested e-mail draft for us to use.
Treasurers Report (Rob Geiszler)
Rob not with us at this time. $11,507.18. No expenses since last report and a list of who has paid.
Membership Report (John Brock) -
Only a handful of states aren’t represented - and try to get more of our state folks to participate.
November bylaws require us to change officers in November. John will be contacting us about that to put up in December for a vote.

Julie Evans is the CEO/Project Director for this and is a good speaker in regards to national trends/data and what our community is telling us.

OTHER -
Barbara - CA is in the process of hiring a new consultant
New York is doing a statewide commons - teacher evaluation of TL - taking instrument to board of regents and they are getting positive feedback. Also have an approved evaluation tool for TL’s.
A lot of schools in Maryland are going with Charlotte Danielson model...they are constructing SLO’s.
CO - We think TL’s will be evaluated as teachers rather than others.
Thanks to Jay for his leadership of NASTEMP this year. Hip hip hoorah!!!
