MICHIGAN OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION (MIOSHA)
ART CONTEST ENTRY GUIDELINES FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Entry Deadline: February 10, 2015[Contest Has Concluded]
Eligibility: Any middle or high school student living in Michigan is eligible to enter. The contest is divided into 2 divisions and 2 categories:
Division 1 /Category 1 = 2D art - High school (Grades 9-12) Division 2 / Category 1 =2D artMiddle School (Grades 6-8)
Division 1 / Category 2 = 3D art -High school (Grades 9-12) Division 2 / Category 2 = 3D art -Middle School (Grades 6-8)
Entry Guidelines: An entry form and digital jpegs of two-dimensional or three-dimensional artwork is to be summited. A maximum of 1 piece of artwork per student will be accepted.All original artwork including: drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, prints, photography, jewelry and textiles are accepted. Entries must not exceed twofeet in any direction.
Theme: This project has a workplace safety and health theme: Protecting Michigan Workers. Artwork is to depict any of the following :
Workers safely doing dangerous work / Workers protected from harmful exposures or conditionsThe safest way to perform work / Safer tools and/or personal protective equipment used at work
The consequences for workers exposed to unsafe acts, harmful conditions, or unhealthy work environments.*
*Photographs depicting workers (real or staged) engaged in unsafe acts, harmful conditions or in an unhealthy environment will not be accepted.
Essay/Statement:Describe your art work and how it represents the theme (not to exceed 200 words).
Submission Procedure: Digital Images may be submitted to the MIOSHA 40th Anniversary Outreach Sub-Committee in one of two ways. Digital images should be in JPEG format. Each image file size should not exceed (1) MB. Images should be in color. (Unless original artwork in black and white.)
Option 1: Email digital image file and scanned image of signed completed entry form to . Include student’s name, school and grade in the email.
Option 2: Mail signed entry form and digital image files to MIOSHA, 40th Anniversary Outreach Sub-committee, 7150 Harris Drive, Box 30643, Lansing MI 48909-8143. Digital files must be submitted on a CD. Each CD must be labeled with the artist’s name, school and grade using a permanent marker. Artwork title on entry form must correspond to digital image file name.
Selection Process: Winning entries will be selected by occupational safety and health professionals based on overall quality and adherence to the theme. Selected work will be exhibited during the Michigan Safety Conference, April 13-15, 2015 at the Lansing Center. Art work must be delivered by Friday, April 10, 2015,4:30 PM to MIOSHA, Secondary Complex, 7150 Harris Drive, Lansing MI. NO LATE SUBMISSIONS. All winning work will remain as placed in the exhibit and not withdrawn before the close of the exhibit.
Selected two-dimensional work must be matted with a professional quality mat board, cut or dry mounted. Framing is optional. Stretched canvases should have neat and secure edges and must have an attached wire for hanging. In addition, pastels or charcoals must be sprayed and/or covered with plastic or acetate.
Awards: 16 awards (First-Forth Prizes per category and division). First = $100; Second = $50; Third = $25; Forth = $15

Art work Pick up:Any art work not picked-up by 5:00 PM, May 1, 2015 will become property of MIOSHA.
Conditions: MIOSHA takes utmost care while handling and storing artwork, but cannot be responsible for loss or damage from any cause, whatsoever. Permission to photograph selected artwork and/or students with their artwork and to use the student’s full name on the artwork during the exhibit is requested.
