Course Description: The World Cultures course will focus on an understanding of the background and development of the various cultures of the world. The course is designed to be an interdisciplinary approach, drawing on history, geography, sociology, anthropology, economics, government, religion, philosophy, as well as the Arts. During the course students will learn to appreciate the accomplishments of man within the cultures of the world. Students should be able to understand the unique cultures of: China, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Japan, India, Southern Asia, Eastern Europe and Western Europe. This is a required course for all 10th grade students.

Course Requirements:

● Exhibit and maintain tolerance at all times.

● Be an active participant in your education of various cultures.

● Give honest, accountable insight.

● Respect all individual’s opinions and ideas.

● Listen to directions and follow through with them.

● You must access edline in order to know your grade.

Required Materials:

  1. A pencil or pen
  2. Paper

Grades:

* Note: Please refer to the absence policy in your classroom rules.

Warm-Up Quizzes: You will be given a warm-up to write down each day. You must have these notes to use on quizzes throughout the course.

Exams: I will give a minimum of 2 days notice for all unit exams. If you are absent the day before an exam you are still required to take the exam on the given date.

Quizzes: Quizzes will be given on a regular basis depending on topics being discussed. Pop quizzes may be given at any point of the course.

Homework: Homework will be given on a regular basis and is expected on the due date.

Projects: You will complete a minimum of six projects for this course (one project per unit).

In-Class Assignments: If I give class time to do an assignment you must be working on the task at hand. If you are off task you will lose points accordingly.

Participation: Class participation is expected and required. Class participation includes, but is not limited to being prepared, polite, productive, and prompt.
