Camera Manual Scavenger Hunt

In this activity, you’ll search for important information about our cameras in our camera manuals. Find a partner and start searching on your computer!

DIRECTIONS:

Read through the two camera manuals on my blog, and find answers to the questions below. Make sure to work with the cameras for the ‘skills’ questions.

1.  Look at the camera diagram for the D60/D3000. Locate the power switch, shutter release, and viewfinder. Look through the viewfinder and take a picture.

2.  Find the flash pop up button. Pop up the flash, and take a picture in P mode.

3.  Find the play button. Look at your picture on the view screen. Find the delete button and delete both pictures.

4.  Find the page that explains how to take the battery in and out ______. Write down the safety tip for taking the battery in and out:

5.  Find the page that explains how to take the memory card in and out ______. Take the card in and out safely.

6.  Find the page that explains how to correctly focus and shoot a picture ______. Focus and shoot 3 pictures.

7.  Find the mode dial. Switch to the P, S, A, and M modes. Find the explanation for these modes in the manual. Read each page, and record the page numbers.

8.  Draw a profile picture of the camera lens. Label the focus ring, UV filter, zoom ring, VR switch, and auto focus/manual focus switch.

9.  Find the page that explains ISO ______. Take a picture at ISO 200, 400, 800, and 1600. In your own words, describe what changed on the camera and picture.

10.  Find the section that explains white balance ______. Explain what white balance is. List the white balances, and take one shot for each. Describe how the white balance changes the shot.

11.  Find the page that explains S mode ______. Switch to 1/125 of a second and take 5 pictures. Are they too dark, or too light?

12.  Find the page that explains A mode ______. What does the “A” stand for? ______. Take 5 pictures at different A settings. Write the A numbers down:

13.  Find the page that explains M mode ______. What does the “M” stand for? ______. Look up how to properly expose a picture. Look through the viewfinder, balance your shot, and shoot. Write down the shutter speed, aperture, and ISO for your shot:

18.  Look through the camera manual. Find out how to turn off the sound on your camera. Turn it off.
