Site Councils
Frequently Asked Questions
Q.Whatdoes Site Council at Kenny look like?
A. The Site Council shall function as a team of parents, staff, administrators and community members working cooperatively to reach the goals of Kenny Community School.
Q.Why should I join the Kenny Site Council?
A. In order for a principal to make choices that serve the students, their parents and the school staff, your voice is critical to ensure the principal has necessary information to make decisions that benefit the Kenny school community. As a parent, community member or school staff member, you help bring a unique view to the table and your thoughts are essential to the deliberation of issues.
Q. Does everyone on the Site Council have the same role?
A.No. Some members may volunteer to be officers of the Site Council, such as co-chairperson or secretary. These people have additional duties beyond attending meetings and representing the student body or staff.
Q. Is there a minimum or maximum amount of time a person can be on Site Council?
A. A term shall constitute 2 years, the year beginning June 1 and ending May 31. Terms shall be staggered so that half (1/2) of the Site Council will be up for election in any given year.
Members of the Site Council other than the Principal may serve more than one consecutive term. Members other than the Principal may not serve more than three consecutive terms.
Q.How frequently does the Site Council meet?
A. The Site Council shall hold regularly scheduled (at a minimum) quarterly meetings.
Q.What should I expect at a Site Council meeting?
A.Every meeting should have an agenda stating the topics for discussion, review or decision-making at the meeting.
Q.How do Site Councils work to build a sense of community?
A.Through discussion and sharing of ideas, concerns and solutions, members of a Site Council work together to improve Kenny students’ success and achievement. Kenny Site Council is asked to communicate to other parents, staff members and community members what the Council is discussing in order to gather as many viewpoints as possible.
Q.What if I have a concern I would like brought to the Site-Council?
A. If parties other than members wish to secure time on the meeting agenda, they must submit in writing a statement of their concern or issue and what outcome they desire to either of the co-chairs. Requests shall be placed on the agenda by the co-chairs, or referred for discussion by the full Council. The Site Council may consider a referred request and can allot a time slot on a future agenda to hear from said individual/parties and discuss said issue.
If you have any other questions please direct them to either of the Site-Council Co-Chairs or Kenny School Family Liaison.
