Non-refundable entry fee will help cover eventexpenses. Excess funds will help offset travel expenses for musicians participating in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, 2018.
CBMA will partially subsidize costs but cannot guarantee all expenses will be covered.
This form is an initial statement of interest and is not binding between any applicant and the CBMA.
Judges will evaluate each act using the Blues Foundation score sheet and criteria. Band members can be entered inonly one band or act, NOT both categories in the same year.
Winning acts will be required to perform one fundraiser for CBMA in 2017/2018 at no charge. Funds raised will help with expenses for Memphis. Musicians are encouraged to conduct their own fundraising efforts.

2018 CBMA Blues Challenge Application
Rules and Regulations
Calgary Blues Music Association (CBMA) will host a regional Blues Challenge whenSouthern Alberta’stop Blues Band and top Solo/Duo will be selected. Qualifying rounds will take place October 15th and 29th,the final roundsNovember 5th. The winning acts will participate in the Blues Foundation’s International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis, Tennessee, from January16-20, 2018.
Definitions
IBC defines a Band as any act with three (3) or more musicians. Vocalists are counted as musicians.Solo/Duo is any act with one or two musicians. Electric and acoustic instruments are allowed.
Entrants will be evaluated using the same criteria and scoring system used in Memphis. Each band will have 25 minutes to perform. Points given are based on Blues Content, Vocals, Talent, Originality and Stage Presence. Scoring details can be viewed on Blues Foundation website:
Eligibility
Musicians must be 2017 residents of Alberta, south of Red Deer, border to border to border. Musicians must be 18 years of age or older, available for both qualifying and final rounds, and must be able to travel to Memphis, TN, January16-20 2018. Acts will perform one 25 minute set.
All songs presented MUST be Blues:(acoustic/electric), Blues-rock, -Jazz-Blues, Country Blues or Rhythm & Blues.
Entry fees are $100.00 per band, $50.00 per solo/duo act.

CBMA reserves the right to limit the number of entrants in the competition. Every effort will be made to accommodate all applications that meet the requirements and are received on time. Should it be necessary to limit entrants, a screening of applications will be conducted based on the sample music provided. Results of screening process are final.
