Felix Duerr, DVM, MS, DACVS, DECVS

Dr. Duerr earned his veterinary degree at the School of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover, Germany in 2001. After finishing his veterinary degree, he completed a thesis at the same university evaluating the structure of corporate veterinary clinics in the United States and the applicability of such structures in Germany. Thereafter, he pursued a one year small animal rotating internship and a one year small animal surgical internship at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada. Following his internships, he was selected to attend Colorado State University for a three year surgical residency program. Before joining our team here at Aspen Meadow Veterinary Specialists in June of 2008, Dr. Duerr worked at a private practice in Michigan.
Dr. Duerr’s research and publication topics include laparoscopic surgery, surgical treatment of chylothorax, and the diagnosis and treatment of cranial cruciate ligament injuries. He is trained to perform the tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) and tibial tuberosity advancement procedures for the treatment of torn cranial cruciate ligaments. He has a special interest in minimally invasive thoracoscopic/laparoscopic/arthroscopic surgery, and orthopedics—especially juvenile and adult hip dysplasia. He is certified in the PennHIP radiographic technique for the early diagnosis of hip dysplasia as well as the Kyon® cementless total hip replacement, a technique designed specifically to avoid implant loosening. Dr. Duerr has also received advanced training in the application of external fixators (linear and circular fixators) used for limb lengthening, fracture repair and to correct angular limb deformities.
Dr. Duerr is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Southeastern Michigan Veterinary Medical Association, the Veterinary Orthopedic Society, and the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association. In his free time, Dr. Duerr enjoys dressage riding, snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking, and everything else that involves mountains, sun, fun, and activity. He is originally from Germany where his family still lives, but he has made some great friends along the way here in the states including Colleen and their rescued Golden Retriever, Harley.
