Scientist Research Project (75 pts)

Scientist Research Instructions

·  This is an individual project worth 75 points.

·  The rough draft is due:

o  Periods 1 and 5 are due Wednesday May 7, 2014.

o  Periods 2, 4, and 6 are due Thursday May 8, 2014.

·  The final draft is due Friday May 9, 2014.

·  Rough drafts are required to be turned in on the due date.

·  If rough drafts are not turned in on the due date, the final project will NOT be accepted on Friday May 9,

·  The scientist chosen will be the same scientist that is being used for the Scientist Cereal Box Project.

·  All paragraphs on the reverse side must be answered completely and correctly to get the 75 points.

·  Each paragraph requires a minimum of 5-7 sentences.

·  There is no partial credit.

·  No late projects are accepted.

·  If absent on the due date, the project is due upon return to school.

·  All text must to be done neatly with correct spelling and grammar.

·  Typing your research paper is preferred, but not required.

·  All text must be IN YOUR OWN WORDS!!!

·  A “Bibliography” page using MLA format must be attached at the end which includes all of the sources cited and used.

·  Extra Credit: 20 extra credit points if the 5 paragraphs are read aloud in class AND presented with the corresponding Scientist Cereal Box.

Scientist Research Questions

Paragraph 1: Introduction of the Scientist

Use information from your Cereal Box Project. Include the full name of the scientist, the years during which the scientist lived, the country where the scientist was born, where the scientist went to college, and family members of the scientist. Use complete sentences.

Paragraph 2: Contribution to Science

Use information from your Cereal Box Project. Describe the scientist’s research and discoveries. Include all major scientific discoveries or contributions to science made by the scientist, and in what type of science the scientist studied or specialized.

Paragraph 3: Previous Science

What earlier research or discoveries influenced or made it possible for this scientist to make their discoveries or contributions to the field of science? Include any prior research and discoveries that were made before this scientist’s work was started without which they could not have made their accomplishments.

Paragraph 4: Future Science

How did this scientist’s research or discoveries influence or make it possible for later scientists to do their research or make their discoveries? Include any scientists who further contributed to your scientist’s work, any scientists who used your scientist’s work as evidence to support their own work, or any scientists whose work could not have been performed without the contributions that your scientist made.

Paragraph 5: Absence of Science

What would our world look like today without the research or discoveries of this scientist, including the work done by others influenced by this scientist? What would be different? How would our daily lives be different?
