Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

Recalling his death, proclaiming his resurrection, and looking for his coming again in glory, we offer you, Father, this bread and this cup. Send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts, that all who eat and drink at this table may be one body and one holy people, a living sacrifice in Jesus Christ, our Lord. Through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory is yours, almighty Father, now and forever. Amen.

Our Father…

We break this bread,… to share in the body of Christ.

We, being many, are one body, for we all share in the one bread.

O Lamb of God, who takest away the sin of the world: Have mercy upon us (repeat).

O Lamb of God, who takest away the sin of the world: Grant us thy peace.

No single event in human history has received more attention than the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth. In this Lenten journey, the author of the book 24 Hours that changed the World guides us through the last twenty-four hours of Jesus' life. Each week we will reflect on a few hours of that last day, with a short video filmed in the Holy Land to assist us in our conversation. Designed to help us experience and understand the significance of Jesus' suffering and death we are invited to join together to retrace the last 24 hours of Jesus' life.

Welcome, and we give thanks for all we are, in Jesus Christ!

We are deeply pleased to have you worship with us this morning!

As we begin continue our Journey through the Season of Lent, the Choir processes in silence.

We kneel, and say together thePrayer Our Lord taught us.

The Lord’s Prayer

OUR Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us; And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

The Confession and Absolution

Show mercy to us, loving Father.

We have sinned against you, please make us anew.

In your love and your grace you forgive us.

Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy.

Look not on our failings, Lord Jesus.

We have sinned against you, Please make us anew.

By your life and your death you redeem us,

Christ have mercy, Christ have mercy.

Come fill our hearts, Holy Spirit,

We have sinned against you,

Please make us anew,

Forgive us and heal us and save us,

Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy.

For Pardon through the Cross.

ALMIGHTY Father, who of thy great love to all didst give thy dearly beloved Son to die for us; Grant that through his Cross our sins may be put away, and remembered no more against us, and that, cleansed by his Blood, and mindful of his sufferings, we may take up our cross daily, and follow him in newness of life, until we come to his everlasting kingdom; through the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We stand, to sing…

The first Hymn # 371To God Be the Glory

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship

of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.

And also with you.

We pause, in silence, and then begin in prayer, standing:

Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Collect for the SecondSunday in Lent

ALMIGHTY God, who seest that we have no power of ourselves to help ourselves: Keep us both outwardly in our bodies, and inwardly in our souls; that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

The First Reading:Genesis 25: 24-34(p.24in pew Bible)

So when her days were fulfilled for her to give birth, indeed there were twins in her womb. And the first came out red. He was like a hairy garment all over; so they called his name Esau.Afterward his brother came out, and his hand took hold of Esau’s heel; so his name was called Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.

So the boys grew. And Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field; but Jacob was a mild man, dwelling in tents. And Isaac loved Esau because he ate of his game, but Rebekah loved Jacob.

Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary. And Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore his name was called Edom.

But Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright as of this day.”

And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?”

Then Jacob said, “Swear to me as of this day.”

So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob. And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.

Psalm 22: 12-18 Deus, Deus meus

Many bulls have surrounded Me;Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled Me.
They gape at Me with their mouths,Like a raging and roaring lion.

I am poured out like water,And all My bones are out of joint;
My heart is like wax;It has melted within Me.
My strength is dried up like a potsherd,And My tongue clings to My jaws;
You have brought Me to the dust of death.For dogs have surrounded Me;
The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me.They pierced My hands and My feet;
I can count all My bones.They look and stare at Me.
They divide My garments among them,And for My clothing they cast lots.

The Gradual Hymn #505Be Thou My Vision

The Holy Gospel:Matthew 16: 24-28(p. 950 in pew Bible) Glory to you, LordJesus Christ

Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his lifewill lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”.

The Gospel of Christ. PeoplePraise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

What does the Cross of Jesus Christ mean to me?

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
