SDPP is here to enable and empower people to achieve equality. We do this by providing a range of services to vulnerable members of our community.

Role Title: Volunteer Welfare Benefits Advisor

Reporting to: Member of the SDPP management team

Location: Home based – working within the community

The Role

To provide independent free and confidential welfare benefit support to customers at various community locations and via email, telephone/ SMS.

What the Role Involves

·  Support customers through the welfare benefit journey including; benefit checks and completing application forms

·  Communicate with customers regularly in a format preferred by the customer

·  Act on behalf of customers, following their instructions, ensuring they are consistent with good practice and the law

·  Maintain secure records and data of customers details in accordance with data protection and SDPP’s confidentiality policy

·  Attend regular ‘One to One’ sessions with your line manager

·  Attend team meetings and any relevant training whenever possible

·  Liaise with other agencies; statutory, voluntary and independent, organisations, as necessary

Skills and Qualities You will need

·  Open minded, tolerant and non-judgmental of other peoples life styles

·  Ability to gain the trust and confidence of customers

·  Ability to listen and communicate effectively

·  Understand the need for confidentiality

·  Ability to liaise, both orally and in writing, with a wide range of people and organisations

·  Ability to distinguish someone else's view from your own and to represent them objectively

·  Ability to learn, give and receive information

·  Ability to evaluate a situation, devise appropriate action plans
