The Art Walk Porty project is an artist-led project working in the public realm that brings together local audiences and artists celebrating the public space and creative community of Portobello, Edinburgh's Seaside, culminating in an annual festival based around a walk. Our 2016 event worked with 70 artists over 45 locations. Please see for more information.
We are now looking to recruit volunteers to help deliver Art Walk 2017 which runs from
1st – 10th September 2017.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to develop your skills, meet like-minded individuals, experience inspiring visual art and have a fun experience – by the sea! We are seeking enthusiastic, friendly and engaged volunteers to join our team and provide an outstanding visitor experience.
We would expect volunteers to be available for a minimum of 2 days.
There are various tasks/activities available depending on your availability and interests.
- Assist with the installation of artworks and exhibitions
- Distribution of maps/guides
- Installation of signage and road markings
- Distribution and security of Art Carts
- Assist with stewarding walks, talks, workshops, performances
- Invigilation of exhibitions
- Set up of Makers Market
- Collection of donations
- Completing evaluation/feedback forms with members of the public/participants
Volunteers should be able to communicate comfortably with visitors, demonstrate an enthusiasm for visual arts and provide accurate information. A flexible approach is required as each day will be different and tasks might change depending on numbers of visitors, pop-up events or the weather.
While this is an unpaid opportunity, we do offer expenses on production of documentation/receipts.

Recruitment

Training
Training and information will be given on the job and each volunteer will be assigned an Art Walk Portycommittee member to contact for support.
