Potential Workshops for Chicago 2010

Thus far the committee has been approached by one group offering a very promising workshop on the Archives Leadership Institute.

In looking at our offerings for the past five years, it looks as though some topics that have not been addressed include reference, records management (non-electronic), user studies, architectural records, and fund-raising/grants. The situation would seem ripe for offerings in one or more of these areas.

Directory of Archival Education

The Committee was charged by Council in June to develop a directory of archival education offerings within the MAC region. The first draft of the directory was distributed on October 6 to the members of the Education Committee and the chair of the Task Force on Education for comment. As of the present no comment has been received; any further comment will be reflected in the oral report to Council.

The original draft found 22 programs in 10 of the 13 states in the region offering at least one postbaccalaureate course in archives as part of a graduate certificate or degree program.

The following projects from the strategic planning meeting are still under development.

1.  Guidelines Review: The committee will review guidelines with a focus on the addition of a “chair-elect" position, an extension on the length of service, a rotating liaison for meetings, and how best to implement a student internship. Provide a report to Council.

2.  New Workshops/Workshops on the Road: Create new ideas for workshops, curriculum, and determine how they could be taken on the road, including costs, instructors, honorariums, etc. Provide a report to Council.
