Unity Cheat Sheet

(for Accent, Springboard, Vantage, and

Vantage Lite communication devices)

Icon Tutor (your best friend) – tells you how to find any word in the talker

  • Push “activity” button at top left until you see the green “device”
  • Push the device button then “icon tutor” and type in the word you want
  • Push OK

Activity row – top row background is blue; it contains pre-stored sentences and category specific words (e.g., toys, greetings) – more quick hit

Book (pages) – customizable pages; more situation (e.g., holidays)

Core vocabulary

  • 80% of what you say throughout the day is in the core vocabulary
  • Pronouns = yellow
  • Verbs = green
  • Adjectives = blue
  • Nouns = orange

Very rough list of what each icon means/says/does…

? = questions

“More” and music– music, instruments, “more” “all done”

1+1 = math/connecting

Apple, bee = food, eat, hungry, to be (I am, she is)

Bathtub = help, wet, body, wash, hygiene, body parts

Bed, chest = sleep, tired, furniture, toys

Book = reading, understanding

Bridge - prepositions (at, on, off, around because)

Cap = school

Cell phone, thumbs up = say, tell, good/better/best, small appliances, call, technology, computers, fan, good

Chest = put, a lot, things you can put things in

Computer = computer, store

Dice – games, sports, play

Dog = come

Drinks = drink, thirsty, beverage, swallow

Ear = hear, listen, everyone/time/way

Elephant = meet, big, bigger, biggest

Exit sign = leave, right, excuse

Eye = look, see

Family = family

Finger = remember, do, important

Fireworks – exclamations (wow!), please, thank you

Friends = phrases (e.g., just kidding)

Hammer, money = work (e.g., teacher, doctor), jobs, money, “have”, “buy”, no way, time, one

Hand with one finger up – accessories, remember, do, time

Hands = more, music, dance, song

Herb the Verb/action man = verbs, action words

House and frog = live, rooms in house, build, buildings, go

Knot – negatives (don’t, won’t, can’t)

Light/frog = go

Lightbulb = think, bright, enable

Man whistling – actions, verbs

Man, woman, dog – family, come, let, bring

Map = places to go

Mask = feelings

Mom/baby = love, new life, hug

Money = buy, $

Mother Hubbard = a/nouns

Plane = ly

Pot – cooking, temperature, turn,cook, turn, hot, kitchen utensils

Rainbow, Mountain – colors, art, places, nature,

Shakespeare book – books

Shapes – holidays, religion, shapes, make

Sheep - animals, it, look

Snail = slow, take, someone/how/time

Sneaker = walk, fast, sport, run

Stop = stop

Suit jacket, name tag – names, clothing

Suitcoat = clothing

Sun = like/funny/jokes/laugh, get up, big, outside

Three people = follow, few, people, friend

Ticket office = want

Train – connecting words (and, but)

Truck = transportation, drive, ride

TV with the glass on top – drinks, tv

Umbrella, thumbs down – weather, bad things (fall down), need

Wanted poster – want

Watch = time, today, later, start, begin

Wheelchair = sit

Wizard = determiner (e.g., this, that)
