DOCUMENTS TO BE PRESENTED FOR A ‘CIVIL WEDDING’
Lebanese National
1. Personal Status Certificate (not older than 5 months)
2. Family Status Certificate (not older than 5 months)
Above original documents should be translated in English and the translations should be stamped/legalized by the Lebanese Ministries of Justice and Foreign Affairs and the Cyprus Embassy in Beirut.
Foreign National
1. Passport
2. Βirth certificate, translated in English and legalized by the Notary Public or an official authority of the country of origin
3. Recent and original Certificate of Celibacy translated in English and legalized by the Notary Public or an official authority of the country of origin. If it is issued by the Embassy of the country of origin of the interested party in Beirut, then same should be translated and stamped/legalized at the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A) If Lebanese or Foreign Nationals were previously married and divorced, they should be able to provide their personal and family status certificates as well as their divorce certificate (also translated and stamped/legalized at the Lebanese Ministries of Justice and Foreign Affairs. For a Foreign National the divorce certificate should be the original document or a true copy of the original, translated in English.
B) If Lebanese or Foreign Nationals were previously married and their husband/wife is deceased, they should be able to provide their personal and family status certificates as well as the death certificate of the deceased (also translated and stamped/legalized at the Lebanese Ministries of Justice and Foreign Affairs. For a Foreign National the death certificate of the deceased should be the original document or a true copy of the original, translated in English.
C) Once the above Lebanese documents are ready they should be presented at the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Beirut, for legalization (in person). Foreign Nationals’ documents, if issued in country of origin, they do not need to be legalized by the Cyprus Embassy. If same are issued at the Embassy of the country of origin in Beirut, then they should be stamped legalized by the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then presented at the Cyprus Embassy for legalization.
D) Persons wishing to get married should make their marriage arrangements directly with the City Hall of their choice in Cyprus.

E) Once the marriage is solemnized the following steps should be taken:
1. Marriage Certificate should be stamped/legalized by the Cyprus Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at Leoforos Proedrikou, Nicosia, tel. No. 00357 22651174..
Marriage Certificate should be stamped/legalized by the Lebanese Embassy, at tel. No
(+357) 22 878 282 / 3 in Nicosia and/or by any other Embassy of the country the marriage should be registered in.
2. German nationals wishing to register their marriage with the German Authorities should also stamp/legalize (apostille) their marriage certificate with the Ministry of Justice and Public Order in Nicosia
F) Couples who are already married but wish to have a “civil wedding” as well should present:
a) their marriage certificate, b) their family status certificate and c) certificate from their church or other official authority stating that at the time before their marriage they were single, divorced or widowed. Translation in English and legalization of these documents is also required (same as above). In case of divorcee or widowed they must in addition provide the Divorce Certificate or the Death Certificate, as the case maybe, also legalized by the Ministries of Justice and Foreign Affairs of Lebanon and by the Cyprus Embassy in Beirut.
