Skydiving Club at The Ohio State University Constitution

Article I – Name, Purpose, and Non-Discrimination Policy of the Organization.

Section 1: The name of the organization shall be the Skydiving Club at The Ohio State University

Section 2: The Skydiving Club’s objective is to encourage people to free themselves from the Earth, physically and mentally, through flight, to aid and train the best and safest skydivers in the world, and to promote skydiving, both, as a competitive sport and recreational activity

Section 3: This organization and its members shall not discriminate against any individual(s) for reasons of age, color, disability, gender identity or expression, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status.

Article II – Membership: Qualifications and categories of membership.

Membership is open to any enrolled student who attends Ohio State University, Columbus or any branch campus. Others, such as faculty, staff alumni, professionals, and non-Ohio State Students are encouraged to participate, but shall only exist as non-voting members.

Article III -- Organization Leadership: Titles, terms of office, type of selection, and duties of the leaders.

The Skydiving Club at The Ohio State University shall have a President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Advisor, which are required to be a registered student organization at Ohio State University. There will also be a Head of Media that is not required to complete any specified training. The terms of these positions shall extend for one year (June through May of the following year), and positions will be decided upon each May. All registered officers must be voting members of the Skydiving Club and must attend the trainings offered by the Center for Student Leadership and Services, which are necessary to maintain status as a registered student organization.

Although the Skydiving Club is required to have leadership titles, the group will be organized based on the non-hierarchical principles of consensus-based process. Meetings and events will be facilitated in a way that encourages participation and cooperation among all members. Therefore, all members are considered to be group leaders and no one has authority over another member.

Article IV – Method of Selecting and/or Removing Officers and Members

Prospective and returning members must attend, at least, one of the first two meetings of the academic year to gain/maintain membership.

New officers of the Skydiving Club shall be voted on every May by all members that attend the last meeting of the academic year. Prospective officers will be given a chance to speak prior to the vote if multiple members want to hold the same position.

Article V – Adviser(s): Qualification Criteria.

Any adviser of the Skydiving Club at The Ohio State University must be a full-time member of the University faculty or the Administrative & Professional staff. The advisor is expected to communicate openly with members and aide the club leadership with general club activities when necessary.

Article VI – Meetings of the Organization: Required meetings and their frequency.

Meetings will occur every other week throughout the academic year; the time and day of the week will be decided upon each quarter based on the group members’ preferences and availability.

Article VII – Method of Amending Constitution: Proposals, notice, and voting requirements.

Proposed amendments should be in writing, should not be acted upon but read in the general meeting in which they are proposed, should be read again at a specified number of subsequent general meetings and the general meeting in which the decision to amend / not amend the constitution will be made. Any decision to amend the constitution will be made through the consensus process. The constitution should not be amended easily or frequently.

Article VIII – Method of Dissolution of Organization.

If there is no longer student involvement in the organization, the group will dissolve. Funds should be managed so that the group spends only money it has already; this should eliminate falling into debt. If any debts do exist when the group is dissolving, the remaining members shall decide how to obtain the funding necessary to eliminate those debts. If any assets exist, those funds shall be donated to the United States Parachute Association to help with teaching future skydivers.
