SATURDAY 9th to SUNDAY 10th JUNE 2018

The Girls INTOPSfor Edinburgh County will be an overnight event from 9.30amon Saturday 9th to 1.30pm on Sunday 10th June 2018. The event will be based at Netherurd, Blyth Bridge, West Linton EH46 7AQ. The cost of the event is £25 per person. Your Guide/Senior Section unit may be able to assist towards the costs.

INTOPS (INTernational OPportunitieS) is all about having fun, and finding out about international Guiding and the opportunities available. It is the opportunity to be considered for the Scottish INTOPS event in August to fill places on international trips run by Girlguiding Scotland in 2019.

If you are interested in being considered for Scottish INTOPS, you must attend at Edinburgh INTOPS. You should read the following guidelines to check you meet the requirements. There are usually 3 Scottish trips each year, which are a mixture of European trips and something further afield. For example, in 2018there are trips to Denmark, Sangam (India), Lesotho, and to an international camp in the Netherlands. The Scottish INTOPS for 2019 trips will likely be a camp at Netherurd in late August.

Each County in Scotland can choose one girl from each age group (see below) and one additional girl. In addition, a reserve for each age group can be chosen. You must be an active member of Girlguiding and have a real desire to travel as a member. If chosen for a trip, you will be expected to help with fundraising.

To book a place at Edinburgh INTOPS, please complete the attached booking form, consent form, and photo permission, and return it to Alison McNab, County International Advisor, by14th May 2018, along with payment of £25. Payment can either be by cheque, payable to “City of Edinburgh Guides Outdoor Activities Fund” (with your name and unit number on the back), or by bank transfer to account number 00451778, sort Code 80-11-20 (use the name of the girl attending as a reference). This should be sent at the same time as your forms- a space at the event will only be reserved upon receipt of money and forms.

If you are booking for the BP Adventure at Netherurd on 9-10th June 2018, you may also be considered for INTOPS. In these circumstances, you should (1) return the attached INTOPS booking form to Alison McNab with a note saying you have booked for the BP Adventure and (2) send all the BP Adventure forms and payment to Susan Dewhurst, as directed.

If you are taking part in the Victory Shield Camp from 8-10th June at Netherurd you may also be considered for INTOPS. In these circumstances you should return all forms and payments for the Victory Shield as directed and return the attached INTOPS booking form to Alison McNab with a note saying you are attending the Victory Shied camp.

For Scottish INTOPS, you:

Must be an active member of Girlguiding
Be approachable, enthusiastic and positive in differing circumstances.
Adapt to others cultures and demonstrate sensitivity and diplomacy e.g. willing to try different foods, being friendly and polite to adults and girls alike.
Demonstrate good communication and teamwork skills.
Face a range of unexpected challenges.
Be approachable, enthusiastic and positive in differing circumstances.
Do not need to be well off financially, well travelled or academically brilliant etc.

Age:

There are 2 categories:

(1) Girls 14 - 16 years and

(2) Girls 16 - 19 years.

For the 2019 trips girls should be within these age ranges as at 30th June 2019.
