Wedgewood Family and School Association - Minutes

Attendance: Ms. Beischlag (Principal), Nick Kantarkis (chair), Maryka Marais (treasurer), Karin Hill (Secretary), Sandra Moreira (Teacher), Cathy Ding

Discussion Items:

1)  Call to Order

a)  First Nations Acknowledgment by Principal Beischlag (something that happens every day at during morning announcement)

2)  Principal’s Report

a)  Spirit Week went well. The children enjoyed looking for Bonhomme and the Dance-a-thon was a huge success. We made approximately $5500.00

b)  Grade 5 Legacy Gift –selling popcorn. Part of the money is going to new skating helmets. Mrs. Hodge was able to get a discount at Canadian Tire.

c)  Grade 5’s are involved in Director’s Cut all day tomorrow. They have been working hard on their stories and will film tomorrow.

d)  Dental Screening takes place on March 6 and 7 and March 9 and 10.

e)  $5000.00 that WFSA gave us at last month’s meeting has been spent:

i)  6 ipads for grade 1 and 2; projector for Mme Ghegin; adaptors for iPad to Smartboard for grade 3’s; listening centres for Kindergartens and 2 routers for rooms 18 and 7

f)  March Break is from March 13th until March 17th

g)  Officer Rich visits our Kindergarten classes on March 20th

h)  The Kindergartens go to the Kortright Centre on March 21st and 22nd for tree tapping

i)  WFSA Mindfulness Workshop is on March 21st @ 6 – 8. We will need to send out a flyer soon.. Childminding will be provided.

3)  Treasurer’s Report

a)  $4511.46 profit from the Pizza lunches Oct – Jan.

b)  Grade 5s are about to do their second round of popcorn sales. We will wait to see after March if we can match funds for their legacy gift. They have been purchasing skating helmets as their legacy gift.

c)  Second movie night planned for March 31

d)  Literacy – learning A to Z; raz kids – next year we should look into doing a school purchase instead of purchasing one class at a time

e)  10 classes have been done for Scientist in the school

f)  New checks have been ordered – 200 will get us through a year and a half

g)  Things are going well – we are trying to leave $10k in the bank for the next school council

h)  We need to get additional signatures on the bank account

4)  Other items

a)  March 21 – parenting workshop – the flyer has been made up and it needs to be copied and distributed

b)  Pro grant now open for the 2017/18 school year

c)  Funfest

i)  M&M has been booked

ii)  Inflatables have been booked

iii)  Need some support in these areas

(1)  Silent auction

(2)  Book fair

d)  Need help for: Teacher appreciation lunch

e)  Succession planning – need volunteers to step up. Nick and Maryka to review constitution

f)  TDSB Parents as Partners conference registration, Sat. April 1 at the Allstream Centre - http://www.parentsaspartners.ca/
