A RESOLUTION expressing support of the proposal by Jewish Hospital HealthCare Services for its Bullitt County Medical Center expansion and for its plans to build a Bullitt County outpatient surgical and diagnostic center.
WHEREAS, Bullitt County has a population of nearly 65,000 people but only 16 doctors; and
WHEREAS, Bullitt County has been designated as a medically underserved area and a primary health care professional shortage area by the Health Resources and Services Administration of the United States Department of Health and Human Services; and
WHEREAS, the people of Bullitt County need increased access to health care in their community without having to travel outside the county for basic emergency or outpatient care; and
WHEREAS, Jewish Hospital HealthCare Services has filed a Letter of Intent and complete application for a certificate of need for this medical center, which would establish a primary care center with outpatient diagnostic and surgical services providing 24-hour emergency services, diagnostic imaging including MRI, and ambulatory surgical services; and
WHEREAS, a decision granting or denying the application for a certificate of need will be made by April 16, 2003;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The efforts to expand and increase access to health care services in Bullitt County are supported and encouraged.
Section 2. The House of Representatives expresses its support of the proposed Bullitt County Primary Care Center with outpatient diagnostic and surgical services and its positioning as a strategy to recruit physicians and other health care providers to Bullitt County.
Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mr. Hank Wagner, President and CEO, Jewish Hospital HealthCare Services, 200 Abraham Flexner Way, Louisville, Kentucky 40202.
