Ele’s Place Names New Interim Managing Director

Kate Powers has been named the new Interim Managing Director of Ele’s Place, a healing center for grieving children and teens. In addition to her new role, she will continue to serve as the Director of Major and Planned Gifts. Kate will oversee the Lansing branch of Ele’s Place, which has three additional locations in Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, and Flint. Powers succeeds Dan Layman, who has been named the new CEO/President of Ele’s Place.

Prior to coming to Ele’s Place 18 months ago, Kate served many statewide and local nonprofits in management and fundraising capacities, including her role as a Major Gift Office at Michigan State University for seven years. Kate is a past president of the Junior League of Lansing and has provided service to the Lansing

community by sitting on many local boards, and currently serves as a trustee of the East Lansing Board of Education. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University’s James Madison College, and a Certificate in Fundraising Management from The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University.

“I am thrilled to be able to combine my personal passions for children and the Lansing community, as well as my professional experience as a nonprofit leader, in the role of Interim Managing Director at Ele’s Place. It is exciting to be part of the Ele’s Place team and the vision to ensure that no child in our community grieves alone.”

Ele’s Place, a community based nonprofit in its 25th year, is dedicated to creating awareness of and support for grieving children and their families. Through peer support groups, Ele’s Place helps children and teens learn how to cope with the death of a parent, sibling or other loved one. An average of 200 grieving children, teens and their families attend peer support programs each week at no cost. Ele’s Place also provides support groups in schools and clinical consultations for grieving families. For more information, visit www.elesplace.org.
